Vintage Halloween Card with Honey Bee papers!
Living in Florida, we don’t see much that is considered traditionally “fall” in the postcard sense. There’s no brilliant colored trees, no piles of leaves, and no bare trees. Well, we do get a few bare trees here in North Florida…but not until much later on into winter. And they just mostly change shades of green before dropping their leaves. There’s no beautiful show to enjoy.

So when I saw this somewhat non-traditional “Harvest Festival” paper pad from Honey Bee stamps, I was very excited! This versatile pad has a few traditional leaf designs and color shades in it, but they are paired with brilliant graphic designs in non-traditional fall colors like aqua and purple. The breadth of design here doesn’t put the maker in a style box - it can travel all the way from ultra-graphic to vintage style in your creations.
Into my cart it went! And after making my first card with it…I can’t wait to make more!

For making this vintage style Halloween card with the Honey Bee “H, I chose three patterns in brown and black. The card background is layered from a black and white print (distressed with Antique Linen Distress Ink) underneath the harvest plaid.
I stamped the Field Notes ephemera stamp on a textured brown print because it gave it more a feeling of age than plain cardstock would, and it also contrasted with the other two (white and cream) pieces. Selecting the ink for this stamp was a great example of the value of swatching your inks, because before I checked my swatch sheet I had selected a tone of brown that it turned out was completely wrong to go with the brown on the Harvest Festival paper!
The pumpkin is stamped in Archival ink and then watercolored with a watercolor brush by picking up Distress Ink colors that were swiped onto my craft sheet. I distressed the edge of the block for a bit of highlight and dimension, and the whole thing was worked with some Antique Linen on the mini inking tool to give it age.
The label stamp is done with the new Crackling Campfire Distress Ink color, embossed with clear embossing powder. That orange-y red is the perfect shade for going with the orange pumpkin! It’s stamped on white and then the whole thing is roughed up with Antique Linen to age it. (Yes, again…I probably couldn’t create anything if you took my Antique Linen away from me!)
I’m super excited about the creative possibilities of this fabulous 6x6 Harvest Festival pad from Honey Bee! I can’t wait to make more things with it!
