Winter has most definitely arrived across the country. That brings cold, snow - and cold & flu season. Frequent use of hand sanitizer is a great way to help avoid those germs. Purse sized sanitizer bottles can make a nice little holiday treat that is actually useful, especially for people like teachers and others who are in contact with the public and children a lot.

Designer Lori Whitlock has a special talent for creating beautiful 3D packages. This particular one is designed to hold a Bath & Body Works travel hand sanitizer just perfectly! Although the sanitizer itself is a small item, the file requires the Cameo to cut because the exterior of the package is designed as one long strip almost 12 inches in length - too big for the Portrait machine.

The sanitizer sits inside the outside wrap in a little cut-out base. The base is a box that is folded up and adhered inside the middle of the wrap, which is then folded around it using score lines, and secured closed with ribbon.

The file is very simple to cut and assemble - it has the base and the outer wrapper, plus inset panels for the front and back that can be cut from patterned paper to make the package decorative. Here, I've cut the panels from some holiday paper by Heidi Swapp with enameled flower elements on it. Paired with a very formal black ribbon, it creates a simple, elegant but festive packaging. But you don't have to stop there! If you want to fancy up your package even further, the inset panel is a perfect blank canvas for decorating. I used a geometric print that sort of resembles a poinsettia (from Heidi Swapp's "Believe" collection) as a neutral background. Then I used a digital cutting file from Silhouette called "nested poinsettia" to cut a flower from red cardstock.

Then, I got to gilting! I layered multiple gold elements for this effect. First, I edged the pieces of the flower with a gold ink pad before assembling it. Then, I used a glittery gold brad to assemble the flower. The next step was to spritz the flower with Heidi Swapp's Color Shine (but only after I covered the brad with scraps of washi tape so it didn't get sprayed).
Instead of black ribbon, this time I used a glitzy gold ribbon to highlight the gold touches on the poinsettia and add another touch of sparkle.
Just because you are giving a practical gift doesn't mean it has to look practical! This package could also be used to give a gift card, by attaching an extra pocket to the inside of the vertical part of the package.
