Project | Baby Boy Gift Bag

Gift bags are so easy to deliver gifts in, but they are so expensive and it seems I never have just the right one on hand. Craft stash to the rescue!

My local Michaels store carries packs of gift bags in various sizes in neutral colors like white and kraft. These are great to create coordinated items for occasions like bridesmaid gifts, but they are also good neutral canvases to keep on hand to decorate anytime you need a quick gift package!

For this baby boy gift bag, I dug out what has become one of my "go to" items lately - a package of doilies. Doilies are not the most masculine thing in the world but baby gifts are really for the mom, right? I topped the doily with a themed set of chipboard letters from Jolee's Boutique. A quick stamped word finished off the bag! I think that "O" may be designed to have the flowers hanging from the top of it (like stars hanging down) but I preferred it with them sticking up from the bottom.

Of course, every gift bag needs a tag! Once the doily, blue, and kraft theme was established with the bag, the tag design was easy! I grabbed a white tag that had a kraft reinforcer on it. I used one of Tim Holtz'a favorite inking techniques for his tags to color it - I took three shades of blue Distress Ink, tapped them on my craft mat, spritzed water on it, and then smeared the tag through it. A little more water spritzed on the tag blended the colors nicely and softened them to just the shades I wanted before I used the heat gun to dry the tag.

A piece of doily, a stamp, and the last piece from the Jolee's Boutique embellishment set finished off the coordinated tag!

Tie it all together and you are ready to go - a quick and easy gift bag set you can make in less than a half hour. Now the question is...what will I do with the other 12 gift bags in the baker's dozen package? Hmmm....
