CHA Mega Show 2015 | Nancy’s Picks

The Scrapbook Update Hot Picks bring you the buzz from CHA shows, but sometimes my personal taste varies from what is “hot” or there isn’t room to include all of the things that I think are exciting.

So in honor of Valentine’s Day, let’s do “Nancy’s Picks”, my personal list of what I fell in love with at the CHA Mega Show 2015.

First up is one of my favorite Instagrams from the show! I’ve always loved the concept of Faber-Castell’s Gelatos, but the color palette of brights and primaries left me really cold. Now though, they’ve released a palette of pastel colors for the line that I believe will increase the product lines usability for me (and a lot of other people). Plus it makes for very pretty rainbow pictures!

Speaking of pastels, the normally very bright Simple Stories is also deviating from their usual color themes. This new line of basic patterns and alphabet stickers in a range of light colors will be great for cardmaking and for girly scrapbook pages! This girl mom is so happy to have a softer look from Simple Stories to work with.

CHA Mega Show 2015 | Scrapbook Travel Products

With all of the travel that I’ve been doing lately, I have travel scrapbooking on the brain! I will need a steady supply of scrapbook travel products to scrap all of the pictures of the places I’ve been flying off to (and will be going to in the near future). Luckily for me, scrapbook manufacturers are back in the business of producing travel themed items again after taking a short break during the economic downturn. There were plenty of travel product options on show at the CHA Mega Show 2015!

Templates have become go-to products for many scrapbookers with the rise of mixed media, and The Crafter’s Workshop has several new templates that are especially handy for pocket scrapbookers. Good Eats and Radar Fragment are perfect for making custom pocket cards!

For many people, travel means theme parks – specifically the Disney parks. Simple Stories is back with a sequel to their blockbuster “Say Cheese” collection, called “Say Cheese II”. The new collection builds onto the old one, with all of the elements working together. A new collection of pocket cards is sure to be popular!

Camping, featuring retro trailer icons, was a trendy theme this year. Bella Blvd’s interpretation of it in their signature color palette creates a collection that appears to be very 70’s influenced.

Crate Paper also did an interpretation of the retro trailers for their travel themed line called Journey. Their color palette and designs appear to be more 1950’s inspired, however.

Instead of campers, Pink Paislee took its vacation line to the skies with Atlas. The bright colorful collection is ultra modern and will be popular with pocket scrapbookers. The gold foil world map transparency from the Atlas collection is sure to attract a lot of attention, as are the silver foil airplanes!

Teresa Collins also brought gold foil to her new travel collection, Wanderlust. Her black, white and gold mini collection is neutral enough to be mixed in with other travel products to add a bit of pop or drama.

If graphic is more your style than gold foil, Echo Park and Carta Bella have plenty of travel products to make their fans happy. Under the Echo Park Paper brand name, new collections of designer cards for pocketing scrapbooking called “Getaway” are available in a nice subdued color palette.

The retro camper makes an appearance as die for Carta Bella. The company is also offering several other travel themed dies, stencils and stamps that cover every type of travel imaginable.

Carta Bella’s new travel collection is called Travel Stories, and the bold color palette is attention-getting. The pocket card designs on one sheet are very creative and unique.   Stamps with matching die sets were everywhere on the show floor, and Technique Tuesday has a great stamp set for pocket scrapbookers to use for travel scrapbooking called Going Places. The matching die set is also called Going Places.

There was lots to love in Tim Holtz’s CHA Mega Show 2015 announcements for travel scrapbookers. First up, was the repackaging of his mini blueprint stamps from 12 stamp packs into 4 stamp theme pack. This will make it much more affordable for consumers to buy just the theme that they need of the stamps, instead of possibly having to buy 8 they didn’t need to get the set of four that they did.

There was also plenty of new stamp designs that will make travel fans very happy.

For Tim’s mixed media fans (of which there are many), there are new stencils that will work great for travel scrapbooking of all kinds. There’s also an entire new idea-ology collection devoted to airmail themes called Passport that has great pieces in it for travel usage, like map washi tape .

What travel scrapbooking are you working on (or anticipating doing in the near future?) What products are you looking forward to seeing hit store shelves?

CHA Mega Show 2015 | Scrapbook Storage & Organization Products

Scrapbook storage is always a hot topic for papercrafters, and several new options were on display at the CHA Mega Show 2015 that will be showing up on store shelves soon.

Deflecto, better known for office supplies than for craft supplies, was offering some modular pull down bins with some nice features not seen in similar bins, like a slot to hold a label for the bin’s contents.

Deflecto was also offering circular storage units with pie slice shaped bins that can be stacked. The company also has tubular storage that will make washi fans take notice, and many of their items come in decor colors instead of functional white. We R Memory Keepers had a new entry for the rolling tote market (which hasn’t seen a lot of new product action lately), in bright stylish colors.

CHA Mega Show 2015 | Electronic Diecutting News

The electronic diecutting segment of the scrapbooking industry has been growing rapidly in recent years. The CHA Mega Show 2015 was a chance to see the latest from many of the segment’s manufacturers.

Sizzix

A new version of the Sizzix Eclips 2 will hit stores this May, featuring Bluetooth technology. Electronic diecutting enthusiasts will be able to beam image files from tablets, smartphones, and other enabled devices right to the machine. The recently updated, cartridge-free Eclips 2 has an MSRP of $299, and the new Bluetooth version will retail for $349.

CHA Mega Show 2015 | Scrapbook Planner Products

The concept of paper planners is a big trend right now in the world in general. Filofax has suddenly become a hot brand (a scrapbook store near me recently started promoting they are carrying Filofax). Many scrapbook brands have jumped into the market for planners as well, providing planners in their company’s familiar signature design style that customers already love.

The current trend to paper planners has been driven in large part by people who wish to create customized planners. In that area the scrapbook companies have an advantage over office supply companies who have traditionally made planners, as they have a lot of familiarity and experience with designing products like stamps, stickers, washi tape and other decorative items currently desired by planner users.

Most of the scrapbook industry planners are set up on a monthly/weekly format. A few, such as the Simple Stories collection, have additional daily organization pages. However, the downside of daily pages is bulk – it makes the entire year so huge that it can’t all be carried around at once and pages have to be cycled in and out of the planner.

Perhaps the most excitement of all the new planners has centered around the Life Documented collection by Simple Stories. Created in their signature bright colors, in a 6″x 8″ size, the planner is a modular system. Each element can be purchased separately, allowing users to build their own custom planner containing only the elements they wish to use.

One popular feature of Life Documented not seen in a lot of other planners is the meal planning section.

Becky Higgins’ Project Life has dipped its toe into the waters of the scrapbook planner offshoot gradually. They were perhaps the first industry company to introduce a planner last year with their planner pages kit for their 6″ x 8″ albums. At CHA Mega Show 2015, they were showing a new more sophisticated planner design.

CHA Mega Show 2015 | Pocket Scrapbook Products

Let’s take a look at some products from the CHA Mega Show 2015 that will be of special interest to pocket scrapbookers!

Simple Stories is always a go-to place for great pocket products, but this new release has something extra exciting – a sequel to their bestselling Say Cheese collection! The collection includes a pack of pocket cards, and of course great embellishments too.

The new collection by Megan Hoeppner for Webster’s Pages is aimed at scrapbookers who record their memories on a monthly basis in pocket albums (as opposed to those who do weekly albums). The collection includes 12 sheets, one for each month of the year, that form the basis of an album.
