Update | Project Life, Publication Calls & More!

It's time for another Update news round-up!

Leadership. Spellbinders announced on June 11th that, effective immediately, co-founder Stacey Caron is "stepping away from all day-to-day business activities within the company" but "will continue to be an important creative driver" for the brand. No reason was given for the change at the company.

Caron's husband and company co-founder, Jeffrey Caron, left his own previous role as CEO of the company in 2013 when an outside investment firm was brought in following the company's disastrous patent infringement lawsuit against QuicKutz.

People. Jennifer Gallacher has a new position behind the scenes at Jessica Sprague's digital Scrap.Click.Supply website. While this is exciting for users of that website, Scrapbook Expo attendees will be disappointed to learn that the popular designer is leaving behind her work teaching and blogging for Scrapbook Expo to make time for the new position.

Good Works. It's a problem every industry company faces: finding a useful purpose for overstock product without discounting or liquidating it. Paper House Productions recently went public with its solution. For the past 16 years, the company has donated to a non-profit called NAEIR, Inc. (National Association for the Exchange of Industrial Resources). NAEIR, the largest non-profit of its kind, specializes in redistributing gifts-in-kind from corporations to non-profit organizations of all kinds. Companies receive a tax deduction equal to as much as twice the products' cost, and the products are listed on the NAEIR website. Non-profits pay a membership fee and pay shipping & handling for the products they receive. Paper House says that donating to NAEIR "fits in well with its philosophy of using sustainable products, being good stewards of our planet and giving back to the community" and that over the years the company has donated numerous products to the non-profit.

Reference. Project Life fans will be excited to learn that the card reference section is back on the Project Life website! Once again, you can peek into the contents of a card set before you buy it, or print out a reference of the kits you own for easy page design.

Publishing. Scrapbook & Cards Today has two new publication calls out for contributions. One is for fall content, due July 16th, and the second is for a special cards issue, due July 8th.

If you haven't seen a copy of Scrapbook & Cards Today, their summer issue just became available. This issue marks the second issue created by former Creating Keepsakes staffer Megan Hoeppner in her new position as Editor-in-Chief.

Editor's Note. I am pleased to announce that I have taken on a new role as social media manager at manufacturer Buttons Galore, so you can now see my work on their blog (and other social media) as well as here. Check it out!
