Project | Travel Album : Wanderlust

Now that I am back off the road from all of my traveling, I am back to my travel scrapbooking! I'm still working on getting layouts done from my trip to Frankfurt in 2014. This is the first of two layouts that contain assorted photos from my walking tour of the area around Frankfurt's historic Römer square.

[Disclosure: The Close To My Heart ink pad used on this layout was received as an editorial sample. Some links in this article are affiliate links that pay this site a commission when a purchase is made after a click.]

Supplies:

  • Project Life Pocket Page (Design A)

  • We R Memory Keepers Pocket Page (6 Up 4x6)

  • Close To My Heart Picture My Life Scrapbooking Program (Wanderful)

  • Close To My Heart Scrapbooking Workshop (Wanderful)

  • Close To My Heart stamp set (Here We Go)

  • Close To My Heart Pigment Ink (Smoothie)

  • Ranger Adirondack Pigment Ink (Pitch Black)

  • Colorbox Mix'd Media Inx (Pewter)

  • Heidi Swapp Memory Planner embellishments (Puffy Hearts, Washi Shapes)

  • Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen (Black S)

(Apologies for the brown wood table background on the photos but the light cream elements wouldn't photograph properly on the white background I normally use.)

For this layout, I got out my Close To My Heart "Wanderful" supplies that I purchased recently from a consultant who had a booth at a Scrapbook Expo, both the Picture My Life set and the Scrapbooking Workshop kit of that design. Together, these two kits gave me paper, pocket cards, stamps, and embellishments that were all coordinated. Working mostly with coordinated supplies made this layout come together really quickly, and the muted color palette of the Wanderful designs was perfect for the busy and eclectic photos I was working with.

The text elements in this layouts are positioned to lead the eye across the two page spread, but they also wander a bit around the page visually as you follow them - like my path through Frankfurt!

The right page is really simple, just two decorative cards, because I had so many photos I wanted to include. Since they were all horizontal I switched from the classic Project Life "Design A" style of page to a We R Memory Keepers style that holds six horizontal photos.

The "Wanderlust" title card had an airplane on it, which really wasn't appropriate for this layout. A few Heidi Swapp Memory Planner embellishments took care of that! A puffy heart sticker covered up the airplane, and then I added some coordinating washi tape to add a bit more black.

The "Take Me Somewhere" card also got a few extra embellishments - another Heidi Swapp puffy heart sticker, and some Close To My Heart washi tape from one of the Wanderful kits.

The photo on the bottom with the spot color was an experiment created in Photoshop. In the photographic community spot color is considered by many to be a bit of a cliché but I liked how it came out and decided to use it. It shows the jusxtaposition of modern Frankfurt (the streetcar) and old Frankfurt (in black & white).

I had only one Instagram photo that I wanted to include on this spread. I made it part of a 4x6 card and then added a few stamps for some fun embellishments. The stamping repeated the arrows from elsewhere on the layout, and also added another pop of the coral color.

It's become a theme in this album that I include an element that has a map print. On this layout one of those elements is a bit non-traditional - this journal card with a transportation system styled map. I added a scrap of paper to it that says "FRA" - Frankfurt's airport code - that was cut from the border of one of the Close To My Heart Wanderful papers, and a stamp. As happens sometimes with stamps, the stamp didn't stamp a perfect impression and ended up looking kind of distressed. I decided to go with it since it was in keeping with the other card on the page.

Working with the coordinated items from essentially just two collections - Close To My Heart "Wanderful" and Heidi Swapp "Memory Planner" - made this spread so fast and easy to assemble!
