This week, there’s a bunch of noteworthy sales, some great links, and a few CHA-related announcements (of course!)

Nikki Sivils made an announcement this week that will be disappointing to her many fans. Not only is she choosing for her company to not exhibit at CHA Summer 2012 in Chicago, but she has chosen to not design any products for this development cycle. Nikki attributed the decision to stress from several recent family crisises, including her father’s cancer diagnosis, her brother’s long recovery from an accident that left him with serious burns, and her grandmother’s passing away.

I, personally, will miss seeing Nikki (and her husband Dan) and her unique design brand in Chicago. I wish Nikki and her family all the best and look forward to seeing her and her company in Anaheim in January!

Elle’s Studio made a couple of big announcements this week. First, they announced they are exhibiting at their first CHA show, with a booth in Chicago at CHA Summer 2012. They plan to release three lines – everyday, Halloween, and Christmas – along with some new stamps at the show.

Their second announcement was that to make room for the new CHA releases, they are having a Grab Bag and Tag Retirement sale. The grab bags are sold out, but there are still plenty of retiring tags left at a huge discount with the coupon code from the Elle’s Studio blog! Get them while they last, because although the sale lasts until Sunday night, they are going to go fast! Continue Reading →

It’s been a relatively quiet week in the scrapbook world this week…it seems many people decided to turn the Memorial Day weekend into Memorial Day week. But there’s still some news of note to share!

[Apologies for the fact that this week's Noteworthy is delayed and abbreviated. Apparently, flu viruses can decimate people AND editorial calendars.]

It’s hard to believe, but CHA Summer 2012 is only about 6 weeks away! My Little Shoebox gets the unofficial prize for the first sneak peek of the 2012 Chicago show, with a small peek of the “Secret Garden” collection:

Wow, it’s been a big week for news this week, huh? Of course (in case you missed it), there was the announcement of the impending closure Scrapbooks Etc. magazine. But there was also a lot of good news in the industry this week – product announcements, events happening, and exciting web content to see!

Studio Calico announced a new line this week called “Hey Day”:

The line also includes a huge assortment of embellishments – including mistable Thickers and shapes, wood veneer shapes, and an assortment of Thickers, diecuts and other stickers. There’s also new Mr. Huey’s mists and a template. You can check out the whole collection on the Studio Calico blog. I have to admit – I usually despise anything orange (or tangerine) but this collection has such beautiful color combinations and patterns that I cannot wait to try it out. Way to go Studio Calico  - you’ve made an orange out of me! Continue Reading →

Another week has gone by of 2012 – and it was an inspiring one! Spring is starting to “sprung” for most of the country, and with it comes flowers and brighter colors…

The bright spring colors were definitely on show this week in Ranger’s big announcement: Limited Edition Spring Seasonal Tim Holtz Distress Inks!

Trends | Return of the Hexagons

Long ago at a CHA far, far away…

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that long ago or even quite that far away, but there was no denying that at CHA Winter 2012, the hexagons were back! I’m not quite ready to call this trend a staple yet – it’ll take at least one more show to tell – but scrapbooking manufacturers of all styles have certainly embraced this shape and put their own spin on it. If you want to see examples from last summer’s show be sure to check out my Trend Watch article on Hexagons, Honeycombs, and Lattices from last October, but right now I want to take a look at some photos from the CHA Winter 2012 show floor and look at just what this trend had to offer this time around.

I have to admit that the Jenni Bowlin booth was one of the last places I would have expected to see hexagons at CHA Winter 2012, but she totally surprised me by putting her own signature (and lovely!) vintage spin on the shape. The hexagon paper (from the Magpie collection) and Quilted Stickers shown below are perfect examples of how a company can be trendy and still stay true to their roots.
