Simple Hearts

What could be better than an afternoon creating with My Minds Eye! I’m seeing trends towards simplified designs and that fits my style perfectly. I excuted simplicity by cutting several die-cut hearts from patterend paper from the Collectable collection. I lined the hearts up tops to bottoms in two rows. Just for a little interest I added pop dots to one heart on the top row.  I didn’t want to cover up the hearts so I chose some thin twine and a simple black button to make it all pop! Personally I’ve been challenging myself to make some cards that are suitable for giving to the guys in our lives. Below you’ll find a card for the guys… no hearts, no flowers.

As always it was a pleasure to work with the quality papers and products that My Minds Eye so predictably releases each and every year!

Supplies | Cardstock: Petersen Arne. Patterned Paper: My Minds Eye “Collectable” (Remarkable – Grin, Remarkable – Dates, Remarkable – Beam, Remarkable – Grace, Remarkable  - Delightful). Stamps: Stampavie (Celebrate).  Twine: Divine Twine. Buttons (unknown).

Designer: Deena Ziegler

Deena Ziegler has been a crafter for as long as she can remember. Her Mom, Grandma, and Aunts were always crafting up some project and they were happy to teach her everything they knew. Baking, sewing, needlework, you name it, they did it! As a young mom Deena became a professional crafter, and now she works at Sizzix as a Craft Designer, teaches card making classes, teaches online at My Creative Classroom, and owns and operates a small card kit business – and she blogs all about it. Deena enjoys finding ways to be creative in daily life by repurposing, giving handmade and creating with her daughters.

Noteworthy | 6.8.2012

School is out for summer! (Well, for a week until summer school begins…) To celebrate, this week in Noteworthy I’m bringing you some summer vacation scrapbooking on the go tips, as well as a few new product announcements, and a few pieces of big news from manufacturers.

The first piece of news falls in the category of silver linings. We learned awhile ago that Hambly is closing down – but before they do, they are having a warehouse sale on June 11th-13th (Monday-Wednesday next week). Sales will not be made online, but only in person at their Santa Clara, CA warehouse. If you are a Hambly fan in the Santa Clara area, this is your chance to stock up before the products disappear for good!

Fancy Pants Designs announced a new collection this week: Country Boutique.

Country Boutique is full of muted neutrals, and is a two-part collection. There are 12 double-sided patterned papers in the first part of the collection, and then the second part of the collection consists of an additional 8 double-sided papers, with a subtle wedding theme. With so many coordinating options to choose from, the collection will be perfect for DIY wedding projects. Continue Reading →

The winner of package #2 is Lynnscraps, who posted:

I love the quotes on these cute stamps. I am always looking for quotes like these, which are perfect for me.

The winner of package #3 is Ann, who posted:

I like the idea of the complete multimedia package. For me, I would consider it a class and book purchase. Being able to refer to the “class” at anytime, would be great. So many times I come home from a class with samples and directions, only to forget exactly how we did something 6 months later.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to our sponsor Stampavie for sharing their products with our readers for the prizes! Winners, you will get an email in a moment with instructions on collecting your prize! Thanks for reading Scrapbook Update!

Giveaway | Suzi Blu for Stampavie

Artist Suzi Blu is having an exciting 2012! In January at CHA Winter 2012, she released a new line of clear stamps with Stampavie that feature her signature hand drawn female figures, uplifting sayings and quirky style.

She also has a new book out this month, titled Mixed-Media Girls with Suzi Blu: Drawing, Painting, and Fanciful Adornments from Start to Finish. The 128-page book comes with a DVD that features instruction by Suzi on techniques in the book. (This, perhaps, is the future of publishing in this industry – books not just as books but as complete multi-media packages.)

Art journaling is a building trend in the industry and Suzi’s designs are emblematic of that community’s influence in all areas of papercrafting. Would you like to try some of Suzi’s stamps for your art journaling, scrapbooking, card making, or other mixed media project? You can win some right here thanks to Scrapbook Update sponsor Stampavie! Suzi Blu Moves To Stampavie

Stampavie has shared exclusively with Scrapbook Update that mixed media artist Suzi Blu has signed with the company to create a signature stamp line. Suzi Blu was formerly with Unity Stamp.

New Jersey-based Suzi Blu is known for her folk art based designs that feature portaits, and for her offbeat personal style. On the transition to working with Stampavie, she commented:

Something happens when two people get together that are meant to be together, that’s me and Heidi. More than a working relationship we are friends of a like mind, and enthusiastic to take the stamp world and show them what mixed media is all about! We foresee not just creating beautiful stamps to be used in traditional ways, but transforming the occasional crafter into an artist. Our stamp line is the starting place that will inspire the limitless potential that is inside each one of us to create unique and personalized works of art worthy of decorating walls. I couldn’t be happier about collaborating with a company whose vision is not just to get by but in essence, to change the world. Continue Reading →

Manufacturers Call For Designers

The lull between shows is a great time for manufacturers to refresh their design teams and several manufacturers have calls out right now for new design teams! Here’s a summary of the calls, arranged by due dates:

Stampavie

French-based stamp company Stampavie is looking for four designers for their design team. Design team applicants must have a blog, be willing to supply a minimum of four projects per month to Stampavie, and also be willing to provide physical projects for use in trade show booths and for other purposes. Team members are not restricted from doing other design team work. Stampavie will provide its team members its future collections for free.

Applying for the team is simple – applicants are requested to post a link to their blog in the comments of the Stampavie design team call page. The deadline for applying is midnight GMT on April 9th.

Core’dinations

The company known for their textured cardstock is looking for 8-10 members for their design team. The call is for a one year term on the team, to begin in May 2011.

Core’dinations Design Team members will receive free Core’dinations products, and payment for publications and trade show/catalogue work. The design team’s required work includes providing 3 projects/month for the company’s blog, submitting projects for publication and promoting the company on the designer’s personal blog, and completing projects for exchanges with Core’dinations partner companies.

To apply for the Core’dinations team, applicants need to create a post on their personal blog that includes three projects focusing on Core’dinations products, and supply the link to that post to Core’dinations. The application deadline is April 15th at 4pm EST. For more information and full application instructions, visit the Core’dinations design team application page.

Successful applicants will be required to “Refrain from participating on other design teams or work for any other tool manufacturer that is in direct competition with Fiskars Brands, Inc.” Specifics of compensation will only be revealed to finalists for the team.

The call is requesting a complex application, including the submission of 3 projects. One project is to be accompanied by a step-out, one is to be accompanied by an article of explanation, and one sample project is supposed to be an example of a “unique and innovative” tool use.

The deadline for applying is April 19th at noon CST. For more information and to learn how to apply, visit the Fiskars Design Team application page.
