Cards | Enjoy the Ride

Enjoy the Ride

Enjoy the Ride

Card Annex designer Annette Allen shows us today what you can do with just a 6×6 paper pad and a Silhouette machine!

Annette let her Cameo do all the work on this card, using a cut file called “4×6 Enjoy the Ride Heart Bike” by Loni Stevens that included both the title text and the large graphic for only $.99. Annette even used the interior spaces from the heart cut-outs in the various elements as a decorative element in the design. By doing this, the cut file basically carried the entire design! Cards | Happy Mother’s Day

Today, we’re making a big announcement for National Scrapbook Day!

Please welcome to Scrapbook Update the Card Annex design team! The Card Annex team was founded late last year as part of another Nally Studios property, and is now taking up permanent residence at Scrapbook Update to strengthen our creative offerings here.

Our ten card designers will be bringing you content several times per week to highlight products and teach techniques. Today, you’ll be getting their first three posts for Scrapbook Update, but if you would like to see more, you can visit the Card Annex archives on our site.

First up today, Scrapbook Update’s Card Annex team designer Corri Garza is bringing us a card featuring the products of designer Lori Whitlock, but from two different companies!

The beautiful pink papers on this card are from the Valentine’s Day collection called “Love Story” that Lori designed for Echo Park Paper Company. Who said that you have to put away your seasonal products when the season is over? Lori’s beautiful feminine pink designs in “Love Story” are perfect for Mother’s Day, and would also do well for other occasions like birthdays and baby girls.

Best Wishes To The Mr. and Mrs.

BestWishes - April-BrittBass1  BestWishes - April-BrittBass2

When it comes to weddings these days, your average young couple wants their wedding to be hip, trendy, and personal, but with just the right amount of class and elegance as a nod to the traditional.  You might find it difficult to combine traditionally opposing ideas like “trendy” and “elegant” in order to create cards (and gift items) for newlyweds on their big day. I consider this card cute and trendy, but still elegant and fit for a wedding.

Here are some tips to help you along:

1: Consider keeping the color scheme simple.  You might want to use mounds of flowers and lace (and if that fits your bride and groom – have at it!) but, you can effortlessly infuse a little classic elegance into almost any design by sticking to a few traditional colors.

2: Let the iconography make a statement.  Using cute bird and cloud images stamped in classic black and white, I was able to add a sweet and trendy feeling to the card.

3: Keep the design focused.  When it comes to big occasions – like weddings – everything is super embellished to make a statement. On my card, I used very specific, coordinating colors and stamps to convey my message.  In a sea of forgettable white cards printed with flowers and frills a clean and straightforward design could be a bold stand-out.

Supplies | Cardstock: American Crafts (Red), The Paper Company (White).  Cardbase: David Tutera (Celebrate, Cardmaking System). Stamps: Hampton Art (For Bella Blvd and Art Warehouse). Inks: Clearsnap (Pigment White, Black). Die cutting: Silhouette Cameo (heart). Punch: EK Success (corner rounder)
