5 Ideas To Help You Create A Layout Faster

Whether the kids’ activities have gone into high gear, you’re tackling that big reorganizing project, or life is just crazy in general,  there are times when we can get stretched too thin and our crafting time takes a back seat.

So how can you make the most of the creative time you do have? Give yourself a head start! Here’s my five favorite quick and easy ways to create layouts faster:

  1. Don’t recreate the wheel. Take a quick peek through your own gallery or pull one of your albums off the shelf. Find 3-5 favorite page designs and make a quick sketch of each one. The next time you sit down to scrapbook, use one of these pages for inspiration. You’ve already created the design once, so the time consuming design decisions have already been made.
  2. Start at the end. The next time you have a stack of scraps on your table from a project, grab a piece of cardstock or subtle background paper and create a Starting Point layout (a concept created by Shimelle Laine). Trim your scraps into different sized boxes or strips and arrange them to create a versatile background. Leave your Starting Point layout on your desk and the next time you want to scrapbook, you will already have a page just waiting to be finished with photos, embellishments and journaling. Noteworthy | 2.17.2012

With the excitement of CHA becoming a fading memory, and the new year stretching ahead, it’s time to bring Noteworthy back to Scrapbook Update, and just in time! Things are getting exciting in the scrapbooking world and I have some inspiring projects, tutorials and news to share this week.

First of all, Tim Holtz has cancelled Christmas. What I mean to say is, he has announced that he is retiring his twelve tags of Christmas series, and instead is going to be starting a series that will be sharing one tag a month: Continue Reading →

Noteworthy | 11.11.11

It’s 11-11-11 and what a week it’s been! With less than two weeks until Thanksgiving, and the holiday season getting into full swing, it’s been wonderfully busy and crafty here in my home. Online there’s still plenty of crafting excitement, sales, and more to be had in 2011 – check out this week’s Noteworthy stories:

‘Tis the season for sales, and www.designerdigitals.com is having their amazing quarterly sale - all of their digital scrapbooking products are 30% off now through November 16th at 3am EST. Many digital and hybrid scrapbookers (myself included!) look forward to this quarterly sale and use it to stock up. With a wide variety of styles and products from beautiful brushes by Katie Pertiet to word art from Ali Edwards and page templates by Cathy Zielske, there’s something for everyone. Even if you’re not into digital scrapbooking, there are many products that can be printed out and utilized beautifully on paper projects as well.

Stacy Julian’s Photo Freedom episode on My Craft Channel was especially inspiring this week. Focused on telling your stories, and not scrapbooking to “catch up”, Stacy inspires with numerous stories and layouts of her own. All previous epsiodes of her show on My Craft Channel can be viewed here. Continue Reading →
