Update | Michaels Stores, Lia Griffith, May Flaum, Bella Crafts and more!

Wow, the news has been coming like crazy, and we are overdue for an Update column! Here’s what you might have missed!

In case you missed it last month, Stampin’ Up! has discontinued their Blendabilities line of pens. The alcohol markers suffered from quality issues with the attaching of the tip during manufacturing that could lead to the marker drying out. For information on receiving a refund if your markers are defective, visit the Blendabilities FAQ.

Bella Crafts Publishing, publisher of Bella Crafts Quarterly, has made several big announcements in recent months. They have rebranded, announced a new publication (Craft Techniques) and also a new event!

The event, called Bella Crafts Connections, will take place September 24th-27th at the Mall of America. This is a similar time frame as was previously occupied by the Archiver’s Scrapfest at the Mall of America, before the Archiver’s bankruptcy and store closures. The Bella Crafts event is planned to be huge, and not just for scrapbooking. The company is promising 60-70 craft workshops in areas like mixed media, jewelry making, ice resin, needle arts, as well as more. Over 20 teachers, including Lisa Pavelka, Seth Apter, Gina K, and Eileen Hull, are planned for the event. Continue Reading →

First Look | Carta Bella Paper

Editor’s Note: Carta Bella Paper, sister company of Echo Park Paper, is going to be one of the most anticipated new companies showing product at CHA Summer 2012  in Chicago in a few weeks. Their debut product line has just hit stores. I asked guest writer Tami Morrison to take a look and preview the line for our readers — Nancy

Carta Bella Paper debuted recently accompanied by a lot of buzz in the scrapbook world. With the aesthetic of Creative Director Carina Gardner and the marketing mojo of Echo Park, this company is positioned to make a big splash on the scrapbooking scene.

I recently spent some time playing with their debut line, “Beautiful Moments“. The substantial, textured papers feature a vintage pink, gold, red, and black palette that inspire spring and summer layouts, and would also work great with Valentine’s Day photos.

Unity Partners With Signature Designers

Unity Stamp Company’s booth at CHA Summer 2010 was almost half devoted to the company’s new signature stamp lines – a reflection of the growing trend in the industry of relying on signature names to promote products.

Previously, Unity had released a small number of signature stamps designed by Donna Downey. At CHA Summer 2010, they were showing stamps by Downey, Melody Ross, Scrapbook Royalty, Cosmo Cricket, Suzi Blu, and Samantha Walker.

In addition to the signature lines Unity’s new lines also include two other trendy options: a large selection of journaling stamps and a line of Itty Bitty stamps that retail for $5.
