SNAP Conference 2016: My First Blogging Conference

Somehow, with all of the travel that I have done for my work running my websites in the past few years, the one thing that I hadn’t done was attend one of the major national blog conferences. I had attended local events like WordCamp here in Florida, but hadn’t traveled further afield for one.

I finally crossed “attend blog conference” off of my list last week when I attended the 2016 SNAP Conference  for creative bloggers in Salt Lake City. For those unfamiliar with it, SNAP Conference is a three day annual event based in Salt Lake City that serves home, craft, and DIY bloggers. The event provides networking, education, and opportunities to connect with sponsors.

Delta Flight Information

My journey to SNAP started with a 4am drive to Daytona Beach International airport to catch a 6am flight to Atlanta. I love Daytona Beach airport – it’s only a half hour away from my house and easy to use because it is tiny. It’s so tiny, in fact, that when I checked in for my trip to SNAP, the check-in agent handed me my boarding pass and said, “Your flight is at gate 2.” I told him, “You could have just said go to the gate with the plane at it.” He laughed and told me I was right. Once, I arrived a bit too early for my flight and spent quite awhile as the lone passenger in the secure area of the terminal, with only the airport’s police officer and the gift store clerk for company. Announcing A New Project with – Cricut!

So, earlier this week, this happened:

Cricut selfieA few of my readers may remember the Cricut party at CHA Summer 2010, where performance artist David Garibaldi created this painting of the Cricut bug live in front of the crowd of guests. It now hangs in the lobby of Provo Craft’s headquarters in South Jordan, Utah.

So what was I doing visiting the painting – and Provo Craft headquarters – this week? It’s time to share the details of my newest project with all of you!

During 2015, in addition to working on Scrapbook Update & Craft Critique like usual, I will be working with Provo Craft to run their Cricut Creativity Centers at their booths at select Scrapbook Expos around the U.S.:

  • Grapevine, TX
  • Pleasanton, CA
  • Orlando, FL
  • Anaheim, CA
  • Chantilly, VA
  • Duluth, GA
  • Schaumburg, IL
  • Denver, CO

At the Scrapbook Expos listed above, you can come visit the Cricut Creativity Center and have the chance to get hands-on with the latest Cricut technology. Cricut has just announced the release of the Cricut Explore Air machine, Design Space 2.0 software, and their long-awaited Design Space iPad app, so there will be a lot to check out. Come out and play with us! We’re going to be having fun!

New York-based Craftwell has announced that they have appointed James Thornton as Chairman of the Board.

Provo Craft manufactures the Cricut line of electronic die cutting machines. Since leaving Provo Craft, Thornton has been serving as CEO of Digital Art Zone 3D (aka DAZ3D), a Salt Lake City-based technology company that describes itself as “the leading publisher of personalized 3D digital characters, software and accessories for creative professionals and 3D enthusiasts.” Thornton will continue his position as CEO of DAZ3D while serving as Chairman of Craftwell, and the companies say they “expect that there will be great synergies” between the two companies in the future.
