Scrapbook Soup | Instagram Projects, Part 1 [Giveaway]

Today, in part one of this week’s series on my Scrapbook Soup projects for season 3, I’m going to share a close-up look at my Project Life layout from episode #9, about using Instagram photos, along with some thoughts about it that are not in the segment. (Bonus content!)

You probably recognize the location – it’s Disneyland! During my trip to the Craft & Hobby Association show in January, I actually stayed at Disney’s Paradise Pier hotel, right next door to Downtown Disney, so I got to experience a lot of Disney when I wasn’t at the convention center. The layout is dated with the day that I spent most of at Disneyland, but a few of the pictures of the hotel and Downtown Disney were actually taken on other days.

Disney is such a unreal world anyway – it’s the perfect place to use Instagram and turn your photos into surreal, filtered dreamscapes. You can also use Instagram to improve a photo of something special that was taken under bad lighting conditions. I did this with my night time and indoor shots. It gives a poor shot an “I meant to do that” appearance.

It’s Scrapbook Soup Week!

This week on Scrapbook Update, we are going to celebrate the start of the new season of the PBS series Scrapbook Soup, which will be coming this month to PBS stations across the country!

This season, for the second time, I was honored to contribute to Scrapbook Soup. I took part in two different segments that you’ll see on the upcoming 3rd season.

Visiting the KS Productions studios outside Cleveland, Ohio is always a lot of fun – it’s a chance to see industry friends, and get a sneak peek at what they are doing on the show for the new season. Lots of laughs are had – along with some more serious talk too.

I shared my scheduled taping day with this lovely group of ladies – Ronda Palazzari, Ali Edwards, Kelly Purkey, and Kim Hupke from Spellbinders.

Exclusive Project Life Products to Debut on HSN Tuesday

According to web postings, a new version of Project Life will debut on HSN tomorrow during Lisa Bearnson’s appearances on the network.

The “Just Add Color” edition of Project Life is more than just a new set of card designs for Project Life. It’s actually an entirely new iteration of the project.

Until now, Project Life has been based essentially on two standard sizes – 4×6 and 3×4 – of cards with some accommodation made for 4×4 square instagram pictures. The “Just Add Color’ kit adds a new size to the Project Life repertoire, 2×2, by subdividing 4×4 pockets.

The Silhouette Stamping Kit with Project Life!

One of the biggest responses I got from readers of CHA Summer coverage was when I wrote about the new products in the Silhouette booth – and specifically the Silhouette stamping kit. The kit lets users of Silhouette machine cut their own custom acrylic stamps using their machines, and generated a lot of excitement.

I myself was very excited to try it so was delighted to get one from Silhouette to try for this promotion. The stamping kit comes with stamping material, 3 stamp blocks, a cutting mat, and an ink pad. There’s also a card that allows the user to claim special stamp images for their Silhouette library, and a how to dvd.

What I found was actually surprising. I had somehow thought that the stamp kit was going to be hard to use with some special steps that had to be done. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was quick and easy, like cutting any other medium on the Silhouette.

The only real difference to cutting the stamp medium is that you have to use this special mat in the machine with it. Here it is, all loaded and ready to cut with a half sheet of stamp material:

CHA Summer 2013 | Hot Pick: Amy Tangerine

Welcome back to Scrapbook Update’s CHA Top Ten Hot Picks list!

To see all the hot picks posted so far, visit this link. At the end, after I’ve published all ten of the picks, I’ll publish a summary list for easy reference.

So here, in no particular order, is the next hot pick for CHA Summer 2013 (aka Create-n-Connect)…

Amy Tangerine has been one of the hottest brands in the industry since its debut last year. With just one collection per show, Amy has built an iconic signature style and each new release has been eagerly snapped up by her legions of fans. Each collection coordinates with and builds on the previous ones, with an ongoing style thread and variations on the same color palette.

The amazing thing about Amy’s collections are their versatility. The latest collection, called Cut & Paste, has bright colors that make it perfect for back-to-school, everyday scrapbooking, or travel, but with gray undertones that don’t make it look out of place for fall.
