Exclusive Project Life Products to Debut on HSN Tuesday

According to web postings, a new version of Project Life will debut on HSN tomorrow during Lisa Bearnson’s appearances on the network.

The “Just Add Color” edition of Project Life is more than just a new set of card designs for Project Life. It’s actually an entirely new iteration of the project.

Until now, Project Life has been based essentially on two standard sizes – 4×6 and 3×4 – of cards with some accommodation made for 4×4 square instagram pictures. The “Just Add Color’ kit adds a new size to the Project Life repertoire, 2×2, by subdividing 4×4 pockets.

The Silhouette Stamping Kit with Project Life!

One of the biggest responses I got from readers of CHA Summer coverage was when I wrote about the new products in the Silhouette booth – and specifically the Silhouette stamping kit. The kit lets users of Silhouette machine cut their own custom acrylic stamps using their machines, and generated a lot of excitement.

I myself was very excited to try it so was delighted to get one from Silhouette to try for this promotion. The stamping kit comes with stamping material, 3 stamp blocks, a cutting mat, and an ink pad. There’s also a card that allows the user to claim special stamp images for their Silhouette library, and a how to dvd.

What I found was actually surprising. I had somehow thought that the stamp kit was going to be hard to use with some special steps that had to be done. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was quick and easy, like cutting any other medium on the Silhouette.

The only real difference to cutting the stamp medium is that you have to use this special mat in the machine with it. Here it is, all loaded and ready to cut with a half sheet of stamp material:

CHA Summer 2013 | Hot Pick: Amy Tangerine

Welcome back to Scrapbook Update’s CHA Top Ten Hot Picks list!

To see all the hot picks posted so far, visit this link. At the end, after I’ve published all ten of the picks, I’ll publish a summary list for easy reference.

So here, in no particular order, is the next hot pick for CHA Summer 2013 (aka Create-n-Connect)…

Amy Tangerine has been one of the hottest brands in the industry since its debut last year. With just one collection per show, Amy has built an iconic signature style and each new release has been eagerly snapped up by her legions of fans. Each collection coordinates with and builds on the previous ones, with an ongoing style thread and variations on the same color palette.

The amazing thing about Amy’s collections are their versatility. The latest collection, called Cut & Paste, has bright colors that make it perfect for back-to-school, everyday scrapbooking, or travel, but with gray undertones that don’t make it look out of place for fall.

CHA Summer 2013 | Hot Pick: Project Life

Project Life was, admittedly, something of an enigma in Las Vegas. While it seemed to have lost some of the rock star shine of its debut at the previous show, Project Life was still an omnipresent force on the show floor, driving sales not only for its own company but for many others as well.

Despite the lighter crowds in the company’s booth this time around, this release is actually quite a positive and critical step for the company for several reasons.

Compared to Anaheim in January, where founder Becky Higgins debuted the company with a huge set of new core kits, there was relatively few new core kits on display. There was one aimed at the genealogy market called Heritage, along with a new addition to their line of licenses from well-known designers. The bright and doodle-y “Sunshine” Kit is by Elsie and Emma, of A Beautiful Mess. Heritage Kit by Project Life Continue Reading →

Trends | How Project Life Has Changed The Scrapbook Industry

A lot has been said about how Project Life’s massive and rapid popularity the past few years has changed the consumer side of scrapbooking. But how has it changed the scrapbook industry from a business perspective? As we come upon another Craft & Hobby Association trade show in a few weeks, with all of the new product releases, it seems a good time to examine the fundamental shifts this seminal product line has brought to papercrafting as a business.

Everything Has Gotten Smaller

This trend started with the re-emergence of cards as a market force, but was accelerated and brought into non-card products by Project Life’s explosive popularity. Design elements such as embellishments are decreasing in size. It’s all about scale. The shrinking size of elements is to better accommodate the smaller canvas size of Project Life, where the largest basic area to work with is 4×6.

Not only are items getting smaller, but designs are too. Patterned paper designs are being scaled smaller, and more and more papercrafters are buying 6×6 paper pads instead of full-size paper to get both the smaller scale of the prints and also because that size is sufficient for doing cards and Project Life.
