CHA Winter 2012 | Top Ten Hot Picks

It’s that time again…time for Scrapbook Update to put out the list of the hottest products at CHA Winter 2012! Unlike our lists of personal favorites that we posted earlier in the week, this list compiled by me (Scrapbook Update editor Nancy Nally) is a measure of the buzz and marketability of a product, not just personal tastes. These are the products that were buzzed about the most at the show, that Scrapbook Update believes will be big hits for retailers and that consumers shouldn’t miss!

So, in no particular order…here’s the Scrapbook Update CHA Winter 2012 Top Ten Hot Picks!

Amy Tangerine Sketchbook from American Crafts

This may have been the most buzzed-about line at the entire show. Every conversation about what was hot at the show inevitably seemed to include this line eventually. To generate this level of excitement with a sequel to Amy Tan’s red-hot debut at CHA Summer 2011, is a real accomplishment.

Trend | Travel

So many scrapbookers begin the hobby with scrapbooking a big event. A wedding, baby, or big vacation gets a person inspired to pick up some papers and stickers and start recording their memories. At this CHA show, we saw a huge revival of themed product – most especially travel. Today I want to share some of the best travel lines that debuted at CHA Winter 2012.

Studio Calico | Abroad

“Abroad” is filled with great useful patterned papers, but they go above and beyond with garlands, fabrips, letter stickers, and shaped stickers that utilize map print. They also have die cuts and wood veneers of each state (USA), stamps, and more. The blues, greens, and neutral colors will be so versatile and would mix well with other brands as well as perfectly coordinate with existing Studio Calico products. Continue Reading →

Trend | Tags

From small to large, plain tags and journaling tags have been around for quite a while. At this CHA however, I’m noticing an emerging trend of more pre-decorated tags and with so many fantastic options being released, I wanted to share my picks from the CHA show floor.

The most exciting tags for me, are the Pink Paislee printed shipping tags. The printed style that they do can be accomplished at home with a plain shipping tag and digital kits, but it is time-consuming and difficult to get perfect printing all the way to the edges. These are beautifully done, and I can not wait to get them in my hands and create with them.

Pink Paislee to Partner With Heidi Swapp & Christy Tomlinson

An explosion of signature lines has been happening in the crafts industry, and in Anaheim this month Pink Paislee will be unveiling partnerships with two new signature names: Heidi Swapp and Christy Tomlinson.

Pink Paislee, founded in January 2008, has rapidly become an industry mainstay by producing not only its own brand of lines but also licensed lines from popular designers such as House of 3 and Collage Press. The company will be at CHA Winter 2012 in booth #2091.

Heidi Swapp, who formerly had a signature line with Advantus, is returning to the market at CHA Winter 2012 as a solo brand after several years as part of the House of 3 brand that created digital products and also has licensed designs through Pink Paislee. Pink Paislee is partnering with Swapp to handle the manufacturing, customer service, logistics and distribution of the Heidi Swapp signature line, while Swapp will maintain ownership and creative direction of the brand and its designs as well as responsibility for product development, marketing, and education.

This arrangement is strikingly similar to the recently announced deal between Studio Calico and American Crafts, and emphasizes the increasing importance of economies of scale in product production in the industry, and the need for the creative business owners in the industry to rely on experts in non-creative areas of running their enterprises.

In addition to her new product line, Swapp also has a show on My Craft Channel called Create to Remember that is currently in its second season of shows. She will also be the subject of the June/July 2012 edition of Northridge Publishing’s new book series, Signature Series. Continue Reading →

Noteworthy | 12.2.2011

Whether you’re recovering from a recent shopping spree or gearing up for the holidays (or both), there is no question that the internet is filled with inspiration these days. I’m already having fun with Tim’s 12 tags and Ali’s December Daily, and really getting into the holiday creative spirit. Last week, I focused on many of the great online holiday events in my Noteworthy column (link), if you’re looking for a class or series to check out.

This week I’m back to rounding up the best announcements, tutorials, and information in general, so let’s get December started:

Pink Paislee has begun their annual 12 days of Christmas series on thier blog, this year re-named “Winter Wonderland” to fit in with their winter themed Snow Day product line that is in stores now. It  promises to be as fun filled as ever:

Each day we will post a new project from our creative team that includes step by step tips and tricks so you can create along with us; and we will also provide FREE printables and host daily blog giveaways so we can give out secret scrappy gift boxes filled to the brim!

The event takes place through December 12 on the Pink Paislee blog. With the free printables, prizes, not to mention tutorials for projects I am really looking forward to this.

Thousands check out the Tim Holtz 12 tags of Christmas posts, of course, but also worth watching is the Ranger blog, which promises a daily prize drawing for a box filled with holiday inspired Ranger products during Tim’s 12 tags event. Some of the Ranger staff will also be creating tags inspired by Tim’s daily tag and posting those as well. Continue Reading →

Noteworthy | 11.4.2011

I have an announcement to make – this has been a week full of news and announcements! Here’s all the latest I’ve found – this week’s noteworthy items:

Ranger has announced that they have a new signature designer: Dyan Reaveley.

Dyan and Ranger are developing a signature line of craft products called Dylusions, and she is already an integral part of the Ranger Designer Team. Dyan has been teaching and demoing with Ranger for several years and is known for her creativity with layering color, images and thought-provoking collages.

Dyan’s Dylusions stamp line, which is manufactured by Stampers Anonymous and distributed by Ranger, debuted at the Summer CHA show and is now available. There are no specific product details released yet about her new signature line, but the new “Dylusions” craft product line will debut with Ranger at the Winter CHA show in January.

Pink Paislee announced that beginning November 14th they will begin exclusively selling digital product through JessicaSprague.com.

We have been interested in joining the digital scrapbook market ever since we opened our doors in 2008. Almost every week we hear from customers who are interested in purchasing our patterns in a digital format, so being able to make this announcement public is very exciting for us!

Customers can expect to find paper packs, element packs, sticker packs, digital brushes, quickpages and more in the coming months. Some will be new and exclusive digital products while others will be developed from previous paper collections. Continue Reading →
