Oh Snap! I Forgot Your Birthday!

Welcome to day one of our My Mind’s Eye feature week! All this week we’ll be sharing projects from our design team showcasing the new product lines from My Mind’s Eye at CHA Winter 2013.

Today, designer Susie Moore shows off the “My Girl” collection with her retro-infused belated birthday card! The trendy polaroid camera chipboard piece provides the perfect (and fun) focal point for the card, and a great companion for the card’s fun (pun) apology: “Oh snap! I forgot your birthday.” Using foam adhesive to lift the sentiment banner off the background highlights it and helps keep it from getting lost in the busy patterned background.

Matching bold and busy patterns like these can be challenging, but when you use patterns from the same collection, a lot of the work is already done for you. The patterns are already color and style coordinated so all you really need to worry about is scale. Here, Susie choose the smaller kite pattern and matched it with the larger plaid pattern for balance.

Supplies | Cardstock: Papertrey Ink. Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye “My Girl” (Bouquet, Kite Strings). Chipboard: My Mind’s Eye (My Girl). Bling: My Mind’s Eye (My Girl). Misc: Ranger Glossy Accents.

Susie Cannon Moore is married to her soulmate Randall, and between them they have five grown children – four boys and one girl – and five wonderful grandchildren. They live in a small country town called Maypearl, Texas. Susie has been paper crafting all her life, but started scrapbooking seriously in 1998. She  has been published in Paper Crafts and Just Steampunk, and also have been on HGTVʼ’s Crafterʼ’s Coast to Coast. Susie loves to scrapbook her family, and do mini books (mostly as gifts). Card making is also a passion she has embraced for years. As a computer nerd, she especially enjoys using digis. In May of 2011, Susie, who has been a dieaholic from the early Sizzix days, started a website devoted to crafting with dies. You can visit her website at The Dies Have It.

Thinking of You

For this fairly straightforward and quick card, designer Terri Davenport utilized the brand new just-in-stores collection called Boy Crazy that My Mind’s Eye released at CHA Winter 2013.

One of the major design features of this card is the text in the sentiment. Terri used the center of the chipboard circle to take the place of the “o” in you. Also, she was running out of a few of the alpha rub-on letters, so she mixed two different sizes/styles and also turned a “z” on its side to create an “n”.

With the bold patterned paper, and the big text embellishments, this card didn’t need much else. Terri just finished it off with a quick wrap of baker’s twine, and that was the perfect finishing touch! The yellow striped twine repeated the yellow bands on the chipboard element, appearing perfectly “tied” together!

Supplies | Cardstock: Core’dinations. Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye “Boy Crazy” (Diamonds). Chipboard: My Mind’s Eye (Boy Crazy). Alphabet Stickers: Simple Stories. Rub-ons: Doodlebug Designs. Baker’s Twine: Twinery.

I’ve Bean Missing You!

Missing You

Sometimes all it takes for a great card is the perfect die cut to go with a fun sentiment stamp! Designer Corri Garza used a My Mind’s Eye 6″x6″ paper pad to create a wonderfully coordinated splash of pattern on this fun card. It might be tempting to use shades of brown and black with a coffee-themed stamp and a coffee cup die cut, but the bright graphic patterns give a much happier tone to the card and its sentiment. The key is to mix the colors and size of the patterned paper. Corri contrasted the bold plaid with a more subtle geometric patterned paper.

Supplies | Cardstock: Georgia Pacific (white). Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye Six by Six (A Mother’s Love). Stamps: Scrappy Moms (Freshly Brewed). Ink: Tsukineko StazOn (Jet Black), Ranger Tim Holtz Distress (Broken China). Digital Die Cutting File: Silhouette (Coffee Cup To  Go). Ribbon: Really Reasonable Ribbon (Shimmer Satin). Embellishment: Recollections by Michaels (glitter heart).

Designer: Corri Garza

Corri began paper crafting in 2009 when she purchased a Cricut at a Black Friday sale. She started following some blogs and immediately fell in love with card making. Recently, she added a Silhouette Cameo to her craft room and she loves working with die cuts to create cards, gift boxes and altered items. Corri lives just outside San Antonio, Texas with her husband and three kids. When she’s not in her craft room, she is watching her twins playing sports. They are involved in volleyball, baseball and softball, so there is always a game to watch!  Corri also enjoys photography, especially taking nature photos.
