Cards | Happy Mother’s Day

mothersday_petzer IMG_7085

What better to use for a Mother’s Day card than the lush femininity of Melissa Frances? Any mom would be thrilled to get this gorgeous card designed by Evgenia Petzer with Melissa Frances’ “Classic Elegance” collection.

By layering a lot of soft, delicate elements, Evgenia created a card that has a collage look but without being heavy visually. There’s a lot of tone-on-tone cream color that adds to this effect with the layered elements.

The beautiful flower on the card is handmade. Evgenia made it with Melissa Frances ribbon:

When you make a card for your one and only mom, it’s always nice to make it truly unique. In this case I decided to make a handmade flower. I used the ribbon from Melissa Frances and the hot glue gun and put the sparklet in the centre. Its a focal point of my card!

Supplies | Patterned Paper: Melissa Frances (Classic Elegance). Chipboard: Wycinanka (Polish manufacturer). Flower: handmade (Melissa Frances ribbon).
Die: Papertrey Ink. Pearls: Melissa Frances.

Designer: Evgenia Petzer

Evgenia Petzer is from Russia. She describes South Africa, where she moved about 2 years ago, as “the most beautiful country that I have ever seen” where she can enjoy the sun almost every day. Evgenia has a 4 year old son, that is her inspiration. She started as a scrapbooker, but now mainly creates cards in her signature  detailed, romantic style. Currently, Evgenia designs for Melissa Frances, Tattered Angels, Bo Bunny Designs, OUAS blog and a SOE kit club, and also works part time as a child & family photographer. Happy Birthday

Evgenia Petzer’s lovely vintage style is the perfect showcase for showing the beauty of tone-on-tone embellishing!  This blue and white patterned paper is so pale that  it mostly appears white to the eye. Layering the white embellishments on top of it gives a subtle effect of texture without being overwhelming. What you see instead is the detail of the embellishments, without being assaulted by their color.

The absence of color for the most part makes the single dark large flower an extra powerful focal point because of the sharp contrast it makes to the rest of the design.

Supplies | Patterned Paper: Melissa Frances (Classic Elegance). Vellum Envelope: Melissa Frances. Button: Melissa Frances. Flower: Prima. Die: Papertrey Ink (Doily), Marianne Design (leaves). Font: B52.

So Sweet Baby Girl

feb1_petzer

When you are delivering a card in person and don’t have to worry about fitting it in an envelope and mailing it, you can really get creative – and dimensional! Designer Evgenia Petzer likes to add details to her cards, and this one has a lot of them hiding in her collage of embellishments.

The little bottle filled with beads mimics a baby rattle. The various layers of paper background are held in place (or appear to be, at least) by several different kinds of stitching. Gesso was used on one of the buttons to create a textured faux finish. And the distressed edges of the background papers adds just a bit of character to the whole arrangement.

Collage isn’t just for wall hangings or layouts…take it out for a try on a card!

CHA Winter 2013 | Melissa Frances

Flower frogs, popular among crafters for photographing and displaying projects, are now available from Melissa Frances. These reproduction pieces are lighter weight than those found in antique shops and have been designed with more space between the prongs so they won’t crumple paper projects. They will retail for $4 to $12, depending on the size.

Noteworthy | 6.22.2012

This week I’ve got some designer news, some hot products, and some new calls to bring to you….and of course, as always, some great links.

The Gaylord Opryland convention center in Nashville, TN, which will host a CK Convention on Aug. 24th-25th, was the site of a large mechanical explosion on Tuesday that evacuated the hotel for several hours. The explosion did an estimated $750,000 in damage, but Gaylord officials told the Tennessean that the damage was limited to a relatively small 4,000 square foot area and the damage should be repaired by June 30th. Officials also told the Tennessean that they did not expect the damage to interfere with events at the property.

Fans of Hambly will be happy to hear that Allison Kreft isn’t going away…Echo Park announced this week that it will be releasing a collection she designed, called Everyday Eclectic!

Allison’s style is easily visible in Everyday Eclectic – and it’s a perfect fit for Echo Park as well. This collection will make both Hambly and Echo Park fans happy! Continue Reading →

Noteworthy | 6.8.2012

School is out for summer! (Well, for a week until summer school begins…) To celebrate, this week in Noteworthy I’m bringing you some summer vacation scrapbooking on the go tips, as well as a few new product announcements, and a few pieces of big news from manufacturers.

The first piece of news falls in the category of silver linings. We learned awhile ago that Hambly is closing down – but before they do, they are having a warehouse sale on June 11th-13th (Monday-Wednesday next week). Sales will not be made online, but only in person at their Santa Clara, CA warehouse. If you are a Hambly fan in the Santa Clara area, this is your chance to stock up before the products disappear for good!

Fancy Pants Designs announced a new collection this week: Country Boutique.

Country Boutique is full of muted neutrals, and is a two-part collection. There are 12 double-sided patterned papers in the first part of the collection, and then the second part of the collection consists of an additional 8 double-sided papers, with a subtle wedding theme. With so many coordinating options to choose from, the collection will be perfect for DIY wedding projects. Continue Reading →
