A Happy Birthday cupcake!

Happy Birthday by Corri Garza

With this festive (and yummy looking) birthday card, designer Corri Garza shows the ease of pulling together a perfectly coordinated card from a collection kit. The stickers and patterned paper are all from the Cakewalk collection by October Afternoon, immediately creating a perfectly put together look for these birthday wishes!

This card’s true delight, however, is in the subtle texture and detail of the cupcake focal element. The use of embossing folders to add texture to the die cut element is a quick and easy step that takes the cupcake from simple to amazing. The diamonds on the bottom create a more realistic cupcake look, and the swirls on the top give movement and depth to the patterned paper “frosting”.

As a last special treat, Corri gave the card some sparkle by applying glitter over the heart area on the cupcake’s bottom wrapper. To make the application of the glitter less messy, Corri ran the base layer of the cupcake through the Xyron, applied the layers together and then sprinkled the heart area with coarse glitter.

Digital Die Cutting Machine: Silhouette Cameo. Digital Cutting Files: Silhouette (Lori Whitlock CupcakeLori Whitlock Tab). Corri began paper crafting in 2009 when she purchased a Cricut at a Black Friday sale. She started following some blogs and immediately fell in love with card making. Recently, she added a Silhouette Cameo to her craft room and she loves working with die cuts to create cards, gift boxes and altered items. Corri lives just outside San Antonio, Texas with her husband and three kids. When she’s not in her craft room, she is watching her twins playing sports. They are involved in volleyball, baseball and softball, so there is always a game to watch!  Corri also enjoys photography, especially taking nature photos.
