Update | 4.15.2014 – Project Life Stampin’ Up!, Scraptime, Studio Calico, Simon Says Stamp, Bella Blvd

There’s lots of news today from the industry’s biggest & brightest names…let’s dive right into it!

Becky Higgins has just announced on her blog that she is partnering with Stampin’ Up! to create exclusive Project Life products for the direct sales market. The announcement promises card collections, accessory packs, albums, pocket pages, tools, other accessories, and stamps (in keeping of course with the mission of Stampin’ Up!). The card packs will be somewhat different than the ones sold in retail stores in two major ways, however. First, they will have square corners – unlike the signature rounded corners of the current Project Life products. Second, the Project Life Stampin’ Up! cards will come in packs of 100 double-sided designs, with no duplicates in a pack.

Project Life products will be available for order through Stampin’ Up! representatives on May 1st, and more product preview information will be available soon. In the announcement, Higgins also promised a future digital release of the Stampin’ Up! exclusive products. Continue Reading →

Project Real Life by Becky Higgins

Big Picture Classes is gearing up for a couple of really big events. Registration just opened for Becky Higgins’ upcoming class Project Real Life, which is the 4Experts series class for the 4th quarter of 2012. The class will go in-depth into the philosophy of scrapping and living that is behind the Project Life products.

It’s been a relatively quiet week in the scrapbook world this week…it seems many people decided to turn the Memorial Day weekend into Memorial Day week. But there’s still some news of note to share!

[Apologies for the fact that this week's Noteworthy is delayed and abbreviated. Apparently, flu viruses can decimate people AND editorial calendars.]

It’s hard to believe, but CHA Summer 2012 is only about 6 weeks away! My Little Shoebox gets the unofficial prize for the first sneak peek of the 2012 Chicago show, with a small peek of the “Secret Garden” collection:

Welcome to another week of Noteworthy! It was a relatively quiet week this week in the scrapbook world compared to the flood of releases and big news the past few weeks, but we still have lots of fun stuff to talk about! So let’s get started…

The biggest announcement this week arguably came from Becky Higgins, and it was about Project Life, of course. Details of the announcement are a bit sketchy because Becky’s announcement video is currently unavailable for viewing. However, the brief summary points that she posted underneath the video indicate the following big changes are coming soon to the Project Life core kits:

  • Project Life core kit production is being shifted to the U.S. from overseas. This will cut down on out of stock time as production is much faster, and the print and paper quality will be much better.
  • Packaging is changing to a large flat package that includes a plastic tray in which all of the cards will lay flat. All of the new packaging is 100% recyclable.
  • Kit contents will be changing: There will now be 500 journaling cards in each kit, with “filler” designs on the back, plus 40 bi-fold cards (up from 24). The title cards will be horizontal designs on the front and vertical on the back (the same designs, just shifted in orientation).
  • Another change that is coming to the kit contents: stickers are being eliminated, for now. Becky says it is too expensive to produce them here in the U.S., so they are eliminating them from the core kits, and looking at options to produce them as a separate item that can be purchased as an add-on for Project Life in the future.
  • The original Project Life kit is coming back! As part of the new U.S. production, all of the Project Life core kits are being reprinted: Clementine, Cobalt, Amber, and Turquoise – and the original kit is coming back as well! It will be called the “Cherry” edition.
No precise word from Becky on when we’ll see these changes in action in the product shipping to customers. Continue Reading →

Things are warming up, and the paper crafting world is full of inspiring ideas, tutorials, new challenges, and even the announcement of a new e-book that will include Scrapbook Update editor Nancy Nally!

Let’s begin with a breathtaking tutorial on how to use Distress markers to stamp and create this beautiful card. Personally I’d frame Richele Christensen’s finished project instead! This would be perfect for a butterfly, flower, or any image really. I love the look and her photography of the steps and how-to instruction is concise and easy to understand. I am always amazed by her projects.

Jennifer McGuire shared a really interesting folded ribbon card on the May Arts blog this week, and it really caught my eye. Chevrons, banners, and twine are very popular right now, and this card combines the look of all three things.

My current favorite ribbon is this chevron twill. The colors are delicious, it is high quality and it seems to go with any type of project. For this card, I used a ribbon folding technique to add some fun interest and texture.

The post includes a video with how-to instruction, and the technique could easily be used as an embellishment on a scrapbook page, journal cover, or other project as well. Continue Reading →
