American Crafts Acquires Bazzill Basics

American Crafts announced today that they have purchased Bazzill Basics.

Bazzill logoThe name of Arizona-based Bazzill has been practically synonymous with cardstock in the scrapbook industry for well over a decade. The company’s canvas textured cardstock sparked a craze in the late 1990′s for textured cardstock that literally changed the face of scrapbooking. It’s only been with the rise of stamping, which isn’t compatible with textured paper, in the past few years that smooth cardstock has made a serious return. The company has met the trend for smooth cardstock with a popular line called “Smoothies“, available in a limited selection of colors. Continue Reading →

Trend | Travel

So many scrapbookers begin the hobby with scrapbooking a big event. A wedding, baby, or big vacation gets a person inspired to pick up some papers and stickers and start recording their memories. At this CHA show, we saw a huge revival of themed product – most especially travel. Today I want to share some of the best travel lines that debuted at CHA Winter 2012.

Studio Calico | Abroad

“Abroad” is filled with great useful patterned papers, but they go above and beyond with garlands, fabrips, letter stickers, and shaped stickers that utilize map print. They also have die cuts and wood veneers of each state (USA), stamps, and more. The blues, greens, and neutral colors will be so versatile and would mix well with other brands as well as perfectly coordinate with existing Studio Calico products. Continue Reading →

House of 3 Shutting Down

In a move that surprised most in the scrapbooking world, House of 3 announced via their blog Monday that they are shutting down the popular scrapbook design collaboration.

House of 3 was founded in 2009 by Janet Hopkins, Heidi Swapp and Rhonna Farrer. The company originally sold only digital products through their website. At CHA Summer 2010, House of 3 expanded into paper production when it launched a licensed line of products with Pink Paislee. House of 3 has produced three total collections with Pink Paislee: Parisian Anthology launched at CHA Summer 2010, and Daily JunqueSoiree launched at CHA Winter 2011.

Co-founder Rhonna Farrer had already announced on her blog three weeks ago that she was departing House of 3. Following her departure, the remaining co-founders decided not to continue House of 3, resulting in Monday’s announcement.

The House of 3 website will be available through May 31st, 2011 so that the company’s digital customers may secure all of their purchased downloads. Their digital store will be holding a 50% off sale through May 8th so that House of 3 fans may make last-minute purchases before the company’s digital products are retired from public sale.

Paper forms of House of 3 products will continue to be available from Pink Paislee through 2o12. House of 3 designer Rhonna Farrer told Scrapbook Update that House of 3′s Pink Paislee released lines moving forward will be already created designs previously available only in digital from House of 3.

Pink Paislee to Market House of Three Collection

Pink Paislee announced this week that they will soon be bringing to market the first line of physical products from digital design studio House of Three.

House of Three was founded in 2009 by well-known designers Janet Hopkins, Heidi Swapp, and Rhonna Farrer.  Until now, the trio have been producing digital products in their signature retro/vintage style and selling them through their website.

The new House of Three collection for Pink Paislee will be called Parisian Anthology. It is being described by Pink Paislee as including “designer ink resist papers, brooch brads, polymer clear stamps, printed corrugate shapes, and several unique embellishments designed with crafters in mind.”

The two companies say they have been collaborating since early 2010 on the upcoming collection.

House of Three co-founder Janet Hopkins explained the group’s new venture into physical products:

Our customers have been requesting physical products from us ever since the inception of our digital site and we think now is a good time for us to infuse our vibe into a craft collection for retailers everywhere.  We could not be more excited about this new venture!

Rebecca Cross, owner of Pink Paislee, is enthusiastic about the collaboration between the two companies:

We wanted to introduce their sophisticated “design district” style to the everyday scrapbook enthusiast. We are very excited about adding this Parisian inspired collection to our growing family of products and we welcome the chance to work with this extremely talented group of women!

Pink Paislee Starts “Creative Lifestyle” Magazine

Pink Paislee has recently made available for download on its website the debut issue of its new quarterly publication Live Pink, which it is describing as a “creative lifestyle magazine”.

The publication is edited by Crystal Jeffrey Rieger. Contributing Designers are listed as Jennifer Beason, Erin Terrell Clarkson, Roree Rumph, and Nicole Samuels. In the debut issue, there is also the sketch article credited to Valerie Salmon, as well as a profile of Janet Hopkins (of House of 3).

The premiere issue is 16 pages in pdf form. Subtracting out a couple of full-page ads for other companies, the cover and the table of contents, there are about a dozen pages of editorial content in the magazine. The intended regular features appear to include columns about sketches and budget scrapbooking.

The issue, intended to cover the first quarter of 2010, shows on page 4 the collections which were released at CHA Summer 2009 as “in stores now”. A separate listing inside the front cover shows the three collections that were shown at CHA Winter 2010 and which Pink Paislee plans to ship in March.
