Graphic 45 | It’s Your Day

spellbinders-winter-2013-cha-dies-card-13-1

Designer Yana Smakula is here today to show off some fabulous Graphic45 from their Secret Garden collection!

The beautiful intricate pattern of the lavender paper makes the large expanse of pattern appear lush and full, instead of feeling like white space since the paper is the only element. The curving arc across the top of the patterned paper – cut with a Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders One die –  is the perfect soft way to top the block of pattern off. A straight line would have been too harsh and graphic to match well with the other design elements.

This card also has a design element that could serve double duty. The seed packet cards are tucked into a pocket created behind the patterned paper element – that pocket could also serve to hold a gift like a gift card or tickets.

Dies: Spellbinders (A2 Curved Borders One). Stamp: Technique Tuesday (Wildflowers). Ink: Tsukineko. Gems: Dovecraft. Adhesive: Dovecraft. Corner Rounder: We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile (Corner Chomper).

Designer: Yana Smakula

Yana Smakula is a newlywed from Ukraine (which is in southeastern Europe) with no kids but two black cats. She loves to travel across the world and meet new people, discover new cultures and just explore. So far together with her new husband she’s been to a few places in Europe (Poland, Check Republic and UK), Africa (Egypt, Tunisia and Israel), Asia (China and Sri Lanka) and USA. Their next dream destination is Madagascar, because they hear the nature there is simply breathtaking! Yana fell in love with the U.S. while living here (in Las Vegas, NV) as a high school foreign exchange student when she was a teen. She enjoys scrapbooking, mostly about her travels. Her other passion is cardmaking – she enjoys trying new products and techniques, experimenting and creating in different styles. She’s also very much into stamping (although she didn’t realize it until she took a close look at her cards and noticed almost all of them use stamps!). To learn more about Yana, visit her website.

Graphic 45 | Congratulations On Your Special Day

#main shot large

What a beautiful way to say congratulations! With the help of the vintage beauty of Graphic45, designer Sharon Callis is showing us today an elegant and sophisticated way to extend congratulations to someone special. This card could be appropriate for a wedding, birthday, or other special honor such as a retirement or winning an award – the sort of out of ordinary occasion that we don’t tend to have cards in our stashes pre-made for to grab when they arise.

No matter the setting – home decor, party planning, or crafting – a profusion of flowers is a great way to create a feeling of luxury. This card’s elegance is enhanced by the explosion of flowers, some of them extra fancy with glitter highlights.

Technique Tuesday | Thinking of You

spellbinders-winter-2013-cha-dies-card-15-1

Welcome back to Technique Tuesday week on Card Annex! Thanks for joining us as we feature the latest product releases from Technique Tuesday at CHA Winter 2013!

Designer Yana Smakula brings us a card that is a great reminder to remember to make use of those sentiments that are often “add on” elements in a stamp set. We often forget they are there, but they can be the primary reason to reach for a stamp set if you remember that they are there! This sentiment is from the new “Wildflowers” stamp set:

Technique-Tuesday-Wildflowers

The sentiment is slightly small for the die cut that Yana wanted to use it on, so she added pearls on either side of it to both fill the space and highlight the text.

The CHA Winter 2012 Sneak Peeks Page Is Heating Up!

Have you checked out the Scrapbook Update CHA Winter 2012 Sneak Peeks page lately? The Scrapbook Update staff has been hard at work scouring the internet to bring you the latest in new product releases and sneak peeks during this busy season, and I’ve been busily entering them into a single table to make it easy for our readers to stay updated on the latest and greatest from all your favorite manufacturers. The page just passed 100 links in the table and is growing quickly!!

If you’re not familiar with the Sneak Peeks page, you can find it here, and we’ve worked hard to make it as easy as possible for you to find the information you need quickly. Want to see what’s been posted since your last visit? Click on the “Updated” column header to sort peeks by the date they were entered. Want to see the new releases from your favorite manufacturer? Just sort by “Company.” And if you’re headed to the CHA show in Anaheim (in less than two weeks!), we also have a “Booth” column to help you plan your trip.

Be sure to visit the page often as updates are made several times per day. Believe it or not, all the current updates were made during the calmer part of release season. This week and next are going to be hopping as we start to see more input from manufacturers that have been keeping things under wraps. American Crafts (including Crate Paper and Studio Calico), Bella Blvd., and Basic Grey are just a few of the companies that are keeping their new releases quiet until the show date is a little closer.

If you haven’t visited the Sneak Peeks page lately (or at all), here’s a look at some of the new releases you’re missing out on: Continue Reading →

Noteworthy | 10.28.2011

The scrapbook world is preparing for the holidays this week it seems. Now I know that might seem extreme to some, but when we’re talking about providing ideas, inspiration, and helping to get ready to tackle holiday projects as crafters we do need all the time we can get! Of course, despite my love of the holiday season, I have more than just holiday spirit to share in this week’s Noteworthy column:

When looking through this week’s potential noteworthy stories, one name popped up three times. I’d say that is not only noteworthy, but lead off the week worthy! Ali Edwards is having a great week – and fans should be rejoicing. First she announced a brand new downloadable class available on her website called Storyology:

Topics covered during the almost 2-hour presentation include the reason why, getting ready to write, story mechanics, rhythms, etc. The class includes six different writing prompts and you are encouraged to take the time during the presentation to write your responses to those prompts (pause the video and then resume when you are ready).

Class includes a 7-page full-color PDF handout, plus 6 pages for responding to the writing prompts.

The class can be purchased here (cost $14). Continue Reading →
