Have A Great Day

mini main

card annex yellow 008

Think a simple black stamped image is boring? Designer Sharon Callis proves that it doesn’t have to be! It’s all about the background here when Sharon stamped her Mini stamp on a funky yellow pattern from Authentique’s Blissful collection. The pattern and bold color, contrasted with the black graphic, bring a fun retro vibe to this greeting!

With its gray and yellow color scheme, and the car graphic, this card would be great to send to a man – but is still fine for a woman with retro taste, too. The sentiment can be adapted with a note inside when sending it to fit a special day like a birthday, as well as just being for everyday. It’s always a great idea to have some flexible, general purpose cards like this tucked away in your card stash so you are never left without a card for an occasion.

Thank You Sew Much

card annex thanks and birthday

Sometimes you can take your design inspiration from your sentiment stamp. Designer Sharon Callis’s sentiment stamp for this card provided not only an obvious theme but also a style as well for the card.

Thanks Sew Much (Slant) (545x400)

The vintage look of the sentiment set the tone for the materials, and then Sharon carried the theme through with basic elements that create a unified look: the paper with stitching on it, machine stitching, and buttons. It only took a few elements to establish the theme, and the card maintains a simple elegance.

A Pastel Birthday Celebration

Celebrate in style

This card has such an explosion of fun pattern on it, but in small pieces and from a coordinated collection, the effect is bright and happy instead of chaotic. The ribbon “bundles” the pattern pieces together and forces their visual movement to be vertical.

The round buttons soften the hard lines of the paper strips, and lead the eye across the card and up to the sentiment as well.

Using the white Signo Uni-ball gel pen to add stitching detail to the card’s elements is simple, and yet it is the all-important detail that pulls the card together and finishes it.

Shhh…New Baby!

New Baby

Designer Sharon Callis used pre-made embellishments as a starting point for her lovely baby card. The hard lines of the chipboard are softened by the ribbon bow, and she added interest to what would be a huge area of white space with the banner element in the upper corner. This card is also a great reminder that frames like the gray oval here aren’t just for images – here the frame is empty, and the shape serves to anchor the other elements.

CARD ANNEX BABY

The most amazing detail on this card, though, is the line of Liquid Pearls dots along the open edge. They are perfectly executed, which takes a delicate and controlled hand, and the shape and shine repeats the effect of the sequins in the ribbon.
Supplies | Patterned Paper: docrafts (New Arrival 12×12 Designstax). Chipboard: docrafts Toppers (New Arrival Forever Friends). Adhesive: Xyron Mega Runner. Ribbon: Bridal Inspirations. Ink: Tim Holtz Distress (Tattered Rose). Other: Ranger Liquid Pearls (Platinum Pearls).

Be Mine Forever

Be My Valentine

A tag with a hole in it needs some kind of fiber to look finished, but then we can be left wondering what to “do” with the hanging fiber. Sharon Callis solved that dilemma very creatively on her beautiful monochromatic valentine’s card!

Sharon used the fiber from the tag to echo the swirl designs in her patterned paper. She also did the same with a piece of craft wire, and some rhinestone embellishments, adding a wide variety of texture to the design.

This card also shows how scraps left over from larger projects can be assembled into lovely cards. There are a lot of embellishments used on this card, but only small quantities used of any of them. These are the sort of leftovers that we often have from other projects – one last brad, half a piece of bling. Next time you finish up a scrapbook project, look around your table at your scraps before you put them away. Can you whip a quick card up out of the already coordinated items in front of you, some of which may even be headed for the trash?

Supplies | Patterned Paper: Trimcraft (Love Letters stack). Adhesive: Xyron (Mega Runner), Foam (unknown). Fibres: docrafts. Embellishments: Dovecraft (adhesive gems), We R Memory Keepers (Spring Designer Gromlets). Wire: Unknown.
