Have Bots of Fun

IMG_5337BotsofFun

Today, our My Mind’s Eye feature week brings us a card by designer Corri Garza that is “bots” of fun! It’s from the new collection “Boy Crazy” by My Mind’s Eye, the companion collection to the “My Girl” collection that we’ve been featuring the past few days.

A clean and simple style is perfect when designing for boys! On this color blocked design, the patterns do a lot of the work of creating movement. The diagonal stripes move the eye through the card from the sentiment to the robot. The offset blocks underneath the robot highlight the movement of the sticker.

Supplies | Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye “Boy Crazy” (Word Play, Imagine). Stickers: My Mind’s Eye (Boy Crazy Layered Stickers). Stamps: Scrappy Moms. Ink: Ranger Tim Holtz Distress (Broken China, Weathered Wood). Baker’s Twine: The Twinery.

Designer: Corri Garza

Corri began paper crafting in 2009 when she purchased a Cricut at a Black Friday sale. She started following some blogs and immediately fell in love with card making. Recently, she added a Silhouette Cameo to her craft room and she loves working with die cuts to create cards, gift boxes and altered items. Corri lives just outside San Antonio, Texas with her husband and three kids. When she’s not in her craft room, she is watching her twins playing sports. They are involved in volleyball, baseball and softball, so there is always a game to watch!  Corri also enjoys photography, especially taking nature photos. What a fun way to say I Love You! Designer Corri Garza combined a bright fun color scheme – pink, white and black – with some trendy embellishments to send her message. Sometimes you don’t need a whole sentiment to get a message across. On this card, one single word says everything necessary!

The three pearls on the top left help, although small, balance out the visual weight of the Scrabble tiles on the lower right. And repeated elements can help tie a design together – the lace echoes the scallop around the heart die cut.

Supplies |  Cardstock: Recollections by Michaels. Patterned Paper: Pink Paislee (Secret Crush). Ink: Ranger TIm Holtz Distress (Worn Lipstick, Soot). Pearls: Kaisercraft. Cut File: Lori Whitlock (Scallop Heart). Other: lace & Scrabble tiles (unknown).

Update | 11.12.2012

Wow, the news has been coming fast and furious this past week! We’ve got a little bit of everything – including new products, a big sale, a design team call, and a big industry retirement – to talk about.

(And did you notice the new name? Noteworthy is now “Update”!)

In case you missed our big announcement last week, Nally Studios is the new owner of Craft Critique, the craft industry’s leading product review website. We have exciting plans for the website and hope that both existing Craft Critique readers and our Scrapbook Update audience will like what they see as we grow the site.

Digital diva Renee Pearson is having a creative team call for 2013 for her online education website. Creative team members will gain free access to classes and workshops, and participate in creating layouts, photographs and projects to be used as class samples. They will also be expected to take part in promotional activities via blogs, social media and other venues. Deadline for applications is November 20th. Continue Reading →
