The first day of the CHA Summer 2012 trade show opened this morning with a general session breakfast and keynote by Jay Goltz. An entrepreneur who founded a custom framing business in the 1970′s, Goltz is well-known to business owners nationwide for his writing on the wonderful New York Times small business blog, You’re The Boss.

CHA Attendees: The Craft & Hobby Association is warning attendees about two scams targeting convention attendees.
One is a supposed online show directory from Construct Data Verlag AG of Austria, Commercial Online Manuals S de RL de CV of Mexico and similar companies that is targeting exhibitors. Signing and returning the form for an entry in the online directory actually enters companies into an expensive three year contract that automatically renews.
The second scam is that several companies have been approaching CHA attendees offering to book hotel rooms at CHA at low rates, and then have not booked rooms and kept deposits that were placed with them. Par Avion is the only travel vendor associated with CHA that can book rooms at official CHA convention rates.
It’s been a relatively quiet week in the scrapbook world this week…it seems many people decided to turn the Memorial Day weekend into Memorial Day week. But there’s still some news of note to share!
