Scrapbook Expo fun with Fun Stamper’s Journey!

This time last weekend I was in Virginia, visiting another Scrapbook Expo on behalf of Cricut. The Expos are a vibrant place full of inspiring people and products. It’s always a pleasure to spend a weekend immersed in the excitement!

One of those people is Richard Garay of Fun Stamper’s Journey. Some of Scrapbook Update’s readers may know him from the line he previously did for Spellbinders, but these days he’s busy launching his own direct sales company called Fun Stamper’s Journey.

Richard, and Fun Stamper’s Journey, have been a big presence at Scrapbook Expo shows this year. Their huge (and free) make and take is incredibly popular with show attendees. Richard’s presentation is so engaging and fun to watch!

Arthritis & The Future of Scrapbooking

May is National Arthritis Awareness Month. To most people, arthritis is something that their grandparents or aging parents get.

At our house, arthritis has a different face:

Bridget arthritisOur daughter Bridget was diagnosed in 2011, at age 7, with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. Her rheumatologist said she’s probably had it since she was very tiny based on the deteriorated state of some of her joints when she was diagnosed. Because of the severity of her condition (she also has another serious auto-immune disease called scleroderma that was diagnosed at the same time), we must travel two hours each way every four weeks to the local children’s hospital for Bridget to receive infusion treatment with multiple medications.

So every day is arthritis awareness day at our house. But what has this got to do with the scrapbooking industry? A look at demographic and disease statistical data will tell you – a whole lot. Continue Reading →

Update | Etsy Sued, Bella Blvd, Operation Write Home, and more!

After a couple of quiet weeks, the news is rolling again with a slew of big announcements and happenings that affect the scrapbook world.

Legal. Etsy is in legal hot water over its recent IPO. A lawsuit was filed in New York on May 13th that is seeking class action status to represent investors who invested in the company between April 16th and May 10th. The suit alleges fraud on Etsy’s part, due to the company’s failing to disclose “adverse facts” regarding the company’s business as required by SEC rules.

The “adverse facts” that got Etsy sued come from a recently released report by stock analysts from Wedbush that alleges that at least 5% of products on the site are counterfeit or violate copyright or trademark laws. Several high profile names, including Beyonce and Taylor Swift, have threatened or taken legal action regarding Etsy product violations in recent months. The Wedbush report detailed an assortment of violations the analysts found against Disney, Star Wars, professional sports teams, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, among others, in product listings on the site.
