Templates, templates and more templates. Digital templates are everywhere right now. Perfect for scrapping events, birthday parties, sporting events, or just the everyday – there’s sure to be a template set for you in this selection. Check these out!

Sweet Shoppe Designs

Sweet Shoppe Designs has some great new templates this week. There’s a two-page template, a template pack for layouts with multiple photos, and a set of quick pages.

I love this two-page template by Janet Phillips. With room for 12 photos, there’s still plenty of room for journaling and embellishments.

Digital Trends | Seasonal Kits

Spring is upon us and with the season, comes fun seasonal scrapbooking kits! Everywhere I look, I see bright colors, bunnies and kits celebrating new life. Here are just a few of the new digital kits that caught my eye this week.

The Digichick

The Sweet Easter Kit at the Digichick, designed by Etc. by Danyale, immediately drew me in. It is adorable and includes a banner, bunnies, eggs, and beautiful shabby papers, as well as numerous other embellishments.

Trends | Return of the Hexagons

Long ago at a CHA far, far away…

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that long ago or even quite that far away, but there was no denying that at CHA Winter 2012, the hexagons were back! I’m not quite ready to call this trend a staple yet – it’ll take at least one more show to tell – but scrapbooking manufacturers of all styles have certainly embraced this shape and put their own spin on it. If you want to see examples from last summer’s show be sure to check out my Trend Watch article on Hexagons, Honeycombs, and Lattices from last October, but right now I want to take a look at some photos from the CHA Winter 2012 show floor and look at just what this trend had to offer this time around.

I have to admit that the Jenni Bowlin booth was one of the last places I would have expected to see hexagons at CHA Winter 2012, but she totally surprised me by putting her own signature (and lovely!) vintage spin on the shape. The hexagon paper (from the Magpie collection) and Quilted Stickers shown below are perfect examples of how a company can be trendy and still stay true to their roots.

From Trend to Staple | Decorative Tape and Baker’s Twine

Trends have come and gone ever since the advent of modern scrapbooking, but sometimes a trend sticks around long enough to move out of the fad stage and become a staple. We’ve seen it happen with many supplies and motifs over the years (clouds, woodgrain, and bling are just a few examples). Thinking back to what I saw at CHA Winter 2012, it’s apparent two more once trendy supplies have firmly cemented their staplehood: baker’s twine and decorative or washi tape. These two items were found in many, many booths on the CHA Winter 2012 show floor and will be plentiful this season on store shelves.

You know an item has become a staple when We R Memory Keepers adds it to their lineup of basic embellishments. This season both tape and twine join the ranks of brads and other staple items on We R’s rainbow wall of embellishments.

Trends | Coral

Coral was without a doubt one of the hottest color trends on the show floor at CHA Winter 2012. Existing somewhere between the 2011 Pantone color of the year, Honeysuckle, and Pantone’s 2012 pick of Tangerine Tango, shades of coral run the gamut from vibrant pinks to sultry oranges. A quick Google Image search for “coral color” turned up this spectrum of shades, showing just a few of coral’s many faces.

With versatility like this, it’s no wonder that coral made an appearance in one form or another in almost every paper manufacturer’s booth on the CHA show floor. In fact, the color was so popular that I had to narrow down the list of collections to feature here to those that prominently used coral in their color scheme. In reality, there were many more lines that I could have shared that used coral as an accent color, but the range of images and styles shown here should give you a pretty good taste of what’s to come (and is in some cases already available!) from the new crop of collections.

Die Cuts with a View (also known as DCWV) made the color the focus of one of their newest paper stacks. Coral Couture pairs both the orange and pink versions of coral with aqua and yellow to create a sophisticated color palette. The addition of large floral and butterfly motifs give the line a vintage feel. For more on this line, you can visit my blog here, where I spotlight this new paper stack, and May Flaum also took it for a test drive in a post on her blog.

Digital Trends | Chevrons

Chevrons have been trending for a while now in the home decor and fashion markets. Our Trend Watch spotted them in the paper scrapbook market a little bit ago. And now the inverted V-shaped pattern has hit the digital scrapbooking world, too. Here are just a few of the wonderful chevron-patterned products that caught my eye recently.

Jessica Sprague

KI Memories and Linda Roos both have some newer chevron products available through Jessica Sprague’s Digital Store.

The KI Memories “Hot Date” collection (originally offered in print form) offers bright colors and fun chevrons throughout the collection. What really caught my eye, though, was the neutral alphabet with a tiny chevron pattern – just lovely!

Digital Trends: Weekly Life-Based Projects

Everywhere I look online, I see digital life-based projects and coordinating supplies cropping up. In the past few years, we’ve seen Project Life, Project 365, and Week-in-the-Life type projects show up more and more in the digital world. This year, however, the field has just exploded, no doubt coinciding with the popularity of Becky Higgins’ Project Life Kits. Becky’s kit designs use a combination of 3×4 journaling cards and 4×6 photos to document each week. Many digital stores have released selections that coordinate with those designs.  Here are just a few recent digital releases that caught my eye.

Designer Digitals

Designer Digitals’ designers include Katie Pertiet, Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske. These three designers are a tour de force in life-based projects. They all offer templates, journaling cards, and many other coordinating digital supplies. [Disclaimer: This author is a long-time member of the Designer Digitals design team.]

Katie’s style is characterized by soft lines, blended art, and beautifully-muted colors. Her recent weekly-project offerings showcase her style and include an artistic template series titled “Pocket Pages Layered Templates” and multiple journaling cards sets.

Trend Watch | Chevrons

The latest releases of scrapbooking products have shown a huge increase in the use of chevron patterns. A chevron refers to an inverted v, the pattern version being more than one of them strung together. This is often seen repeated to form a graphic looking design. While the design is nothing new, or especially interesting even, it is indeed a hot trend.

When I walked into Target weeks ago, I was assaulted by multiple displays of a limited edition collection by Missoni for Target that featured Chevron-filled sweaters in bold colors, and everything from matching socks to baby apparel to underwear. (In fact, that Misssoni collection was so hot that its launch crashed Target.com and it sold out in hours. Its products are now selling for multiple times original retail price on ebay.) While the wild and bright graphic look applied to clothing is a trend I will happily skip, I like the idea’s potential for decor, crafting, and other applications. Indeed, that trip to Target showed me that the chevron pattern is a trend to watch! Continue Reading →
