Baby Cards with Simple Stories Hello Baby!

You may have noticed we are trying some new things at Scrapbook Update lately. Welcome to one of my favorite new features that I hope you’ll like: the card theme of the month! Throughout the month, you’ll see several articles containing cards built around the same theme. For the feature’s debut month, the theme is baby cards!

The brand new collection “Hello Baby” from Simple Stories is a perfect choice for making cards with. The 6 x 6 paper pad has great small patterns that are nicely scaled for card elements, and the chipboard and stickers offer great options to work with for embellishing.

My first card is a bit “shabby country”. The doily was inspired by one of the collection’s prints that uses a doily in it. The chicken wire stencil detail is an example of why I don’t stick things down right away. I had all of the elements – the doily, the title block, the chipboard word, the butterfly – arranged and was staring at the card. It needed something more, but not too much.

A stencil for some added texture on the wood paper seemed like just the right amount of detail, adding something visually without being too heavy. Using the stencil with some Distress Ink and the Ranger ink blending tool allowed me to fade out the edges of the design to soften it.

Projects | Thank You Cards

It’s a time of year that can traditionally lend itself to a lot of thank you cards: graduation, weddings, end of the school year. And at our house, all of our birthdays have just passed as well, so it’s really thank you season!

My thank you stash was running low and I had some fun new supplies I wanted to play with from my latest order, so it seemed the perfect time to whip up some new thank you cards!

Project | Coupon Binder

Some of the best papercrafting projects are the ones where we can use the gorgeous products we love to make something that we use every day more beautiful.

I’m a huge couponer and my coupon stash is so enormous that it takes up a letter-sized binder that I tote with me every time I shop. Inside, my coupons are stored in Baseball Card Storage Pages, and I also have pocket dividers that hold my lists of coupons and sales for each of my favorite local stores.

My coupon binder system was outgrowing the 1 inch binder I had been using, so I decided recently that it was time to upgrade to a Heavy Duty 2 inch Binder by Avery. These binders have “view” covers that can be customized by dropping sheets of paper into clear pockets. It was a perfect project for my patterned paper stash!

Gift Wrap with Your Silhouette! [Promo]

I’m a major fan of gift bags for wrapping presents. They are my favorite gift wrap cheat. You don’t have to worry about finding a box for something that is a weird shape, or the shape of the box giving away your gift. Then, of course, there is the added benefit that they don’t make a mess to clean up when they are opened, and they can be recycled, too!

The downside of gift bags is how expensive they can be, running $5-$7 or more for a medium sized bag. Plain solid colored bags are available for much less but they look like you wrapping your gift was an afterthought. I found the solution in my Silhouette Portrait machine!

Silhouette Custom Gift BagWith a custom cut to decorate the bag, a print and cut tag, and a few embellishments, my solid color bag went from frumpy to fabulous! Continue Reading →
