About Ashley Calder

Ashley started scrapbooking 9 years ago after seeing "modern" scrapbooking in an online gallery for the first time. Finally! She had something to do with all of that pretty paper, ribbon scraps, trinkets, and other bits and bobs that had been collecting in a box. Her unique style combines excellent design, and balances bold trendiness with a delicate vintage sensibility. She has been published in a variety of print and online media, including her sole-authored book, Scraptastic! (F+W Publications, 2008). Ashley resides in southern Ontario with her partner Paul, their three lovely daughters, and two very dull orange cats. You can learn more about Ashley by reading her blog.

Trending: Gold | Part 4 – All That Glitters

Hi everyone! This is Ashley today with the fourth installment of my Trending:Gold series. Today I have eight glittery gold layouts to show you, featuring lots of different ways you can add glitter and sparkle to your projects using glitter and embossing powder. Plus, I’ll show you some ways you can get the look without getting messy by using pre-made supplies.

If you are just tuning in now, be sure to go back and check out the earlier installments for more ideas on using gold. Read: Part 1, a gold review; Part 2, on how to use gold foil; and Part 3, on color pairings and inspiration. Don’t forget to leave a comment on each part in this golden series for you chance to win a fabulous prize pack full of gold goodness, provided by our generous sponsors.

1. Gold glitter-dipped

Instead of covering an entire embellishment with gold glitter, try just dipping in an edge. Dip-dying is all the rage in fashion and home decor right now, so keep up your cutting edge in your scrapbooks, too. To achieve this look, simply brush the edges of the embellishment with a liquid glue like Mod Podge, and then sprinkle the glitter on. You can also actually dip your paper right into the glue and let the excess drip off before glitterizing. alittleextrachin_00 [Read more...]

Trending:Gold | Part 3 – Color Inspiration

Hi everyone! This is Ashley today, with the third installment in my Trending:Gold series. Today, we’re going to talk about color… and provide some ideas and inspiration on how to combine gold on your pages with other colors.

If you missed the first two installments, you can go back and read Part 1 and Part 2.

Before we go any further, I’m officially declaring that gold is the new black! That’s right — gold is basic, and timeless (for now!) and can be paired with anything. If you still aren’t fully convinced, think of it as a shinier, flashier neutral.

Here are 10 color ways that I’ve used to pair with gold… some of these, like neon pink and gold, became fast favorites and I’ve gone back to these color combos again and again. Click on links in the caption below to see full size images.

Trending: Gold | Part 2 – How to Gold Foil

Hi everyone! This is Ashley today, back with the second installment in my Trending:Gold series. (To read part one, click here.) One of my long-time favorite mixed media supplies is gold leaf, and today I have a step-by-step tutorial video to share to show you how you can create your own vintage wallpaper-inspired gilded paper.

The gold leaf and glue pad used in the tutorial are supplied by Stewart Superior, and are included in the great gold give-away this month! Don’t forget to leave a comment on each Trending:Gold article for your chance to win!

Trending: Gold – Part 1

Hi everyone! This is Ashley today, here to kick off another “Trending” series. For the next few weeks, we are going to talk all about gold! If you’ve ever read my blog, you are already well familiar with how much I love gold. But, it wasn’t always that way! I used to be a dedicated silver girl, and avoided all things gold. It just wasn’t “me”, and I just wouldn’t use it. But oh, how things change! Now I can’t get enough gold! And, there are so many golds to choose from: glitter gold, warm golds, yellow golds, champagne golds, brown golds, gold foil, burnished gold, shiny gold, and mirrored gold…
