Enjoy the Ride

Card Annex designer Annette Allen shows us today what you can do with just a 6×6 paper pad and a Silhouette machine!

Annette let her Cameo do all the work on this card, using a cut file called “4×6 Enjoy the Ride Heart Bike” by Loni Stevens that included both the title text and the large graphic for only $.99. Annette even used the interior spaces from the heart cut-outs in the various elements as a decorative element in the design. By doing this, the cut file basically carried the entire design! My Mind’s Eye | Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

My Mind's Eye

My Mind's Eye

Today, as part of our My Mind’s Eye feature week, we have another great example of a card highlighting their new “My Girl” collection from CHA Winter 2013. This card by designer Annette Allen combines a wealth of pattern with an exuberant message fit for everyday or a variety of occasions.

The patterned paper provides its own pre-printed sentiment block which makes a quick and easy base for the design. Annette added a unique element to the sentiment block – a half pinwheel, constructed with a die from Lil’inker designs. It adds dimension and flair without overwhelming the sentiment visually. The whole pinwheel would have been overwhelming.

Next, on the right side, Annette added a series of hand cut banners. The coordinated paper collection means the papers go together perfectly without fear of clashing. She “grounded” the banners with self-adhesive pearls from the “My Girl” collection.

For a final touch, a twine wrap around the card adds some touchable texture, and a line that goes vertically to offset the horizontal banner and sentiment block lines. And just that quick…the card is complete!

Supplies | My Mind’s Eye (My Girl). Embellishment: My Mind’s Eye Enamel Dots (My Girl). Twine: May Arts (Burlap String). Cardstock: Neenah (white). Adhesive: Scotch 3M (ATG). Die: Lil’inker Designs (mini pen wheel die).

A Cute I Love You!

I Love You

This card proves that a message of “I love you” doesn’t have to be all soft pinks and pretty flowers!

It’s easy to forget that stamping on patterned paper is an option for our cards. Designer Annette Allen took a sentiment stamp with lots of open area in the font and used it to easily create a custom embellishment for her card by stamping on patterned paper and then cutting it out.

I love you

Paired with more patterned paper – this time in die cuts – and a few other colorful embellishments, this card provides lots of colorful fun that makes its sentiment cheery and light, instead of overly serious. The stitched border around the white panel “anchors” it to the background, and the diagonally striped paper used underneath it and just barely sticking out creates a flow that moves around the outside edge of the card.

Supplies | Cardstock: Neenah (white). Patterned Paper: Dear Lizzy for American Crafts (5th&Frolic). Stamps: Paper Smooches (Word Up). Dies: Lil’inker Designs (Heart). Ink: Tsukineko Memento (Tuxedo Black). Embellishments: My Mind’s Eye (Winter Wonderland Enamel Dots). Adhesive: Scotch (ATG), American Crafts (foam).
