Update | 6.28.2013

It’s time for another Update – your round-up of scrapbook news from around the industry. This time around, we’ve got some serious industry news, and a whole lot of fun too! (You know what they say about all work and no play….)

Apparently even pop princesses need to buy their own flowers sometimes, as Britney Spears was spotted recently at a Michaels store in Los Angeles. The singer, who is currently in the studio recording her next album with will.i.am, was carrying bags loaded down with artificial flowers, along with various other items. The photos in UK’s Daily Mail made me feel a bit better about my own usual wardrobe for shopping at Michaels – Britney was photographed shopping in sweats, no make-up, and really messy hair.

Jo-Ann Stores are looking for a District Team Leader in the Raleigh, NC area. This position requires a four year college degree and 3 to 5 years supervisory experience preferably in a retail environment.

American Crafts has a design team call out that closes this week (on Friday, June 28th). The call requires submitting 2 scrapbook pages, 1 card, and 2 other types of general crafting or DIY projects. International applicants are welcome and the new team will be announced in early July.

In more Disney photo-related news…did you know that Disney photos are behind the roots of Simple Stories and their pocket scrapbooking system? Owner Amber Crowell explains how it all came about in a recent blog entry about the Disney photo album that started it all.

To close out a trifecta of Disney fun, here’s a piece about something that Disney is masterful at: branding. MomComm has a thought-provoking but fun piece about what you can learn from DisneyWorld about branding your blog.

Love Project Life but don’t want to give up traditional layout scrapping? Stumped at how to combine them? Megan Anderson has a great article on the Big Picture Classes blog about how to combine traditional scrapbook layouts and Project Life scrapbooking in a single album.

Speaking of Big Picture Classes, don’t miss the two big classes that are currently open for enrollment! Ali Edwards’s new 12 week class, Hello Story, starts on July 8th. Ali will be teaching 12 brand new journaling techniques, never before seen in any of her journaling workshops. Also about to start at Big Picture is The Phone Photography Project, a month-long class on how to take better photos with your phone that features 32 instructors delivering tips, challenges and app reviews on a daily basis.

If you are attending CHA’s Create-n-Connect show in Las Vegas in a few weeks, and aren’t an experienced Las Vegas visitor, you are probably wondering where to start checking out the sin city. I know I am…or I was, until I read “10 Cool Things To Do In Las Vegas” by retail consultants Georgeanne Bender and Rich Kizer. As experienced convention and event speakers, Kizer & Bender know what is not to be missed in the convention capital of the U.S.!
