When few days ago I first was Kandis Smith’s baby cards on Echo Park blog I was instantly inspired to create something! I loved the negative space backed with pattern paper on her cards and I wanted to create a similar look.

For my card I used Sweet Girl collection from Echo Park. Since I am a cat-lover I was in a mood to create a card about a cat.  I added lots of machine stitching (I think it always adds a nice home-made feel to a card) and rounded bottom corners. I even decorated the inside of the card – something I don’t do quite often. For that I used washi tape from the Sweet Girl collection and created a simple frame. On the back of the card I adhered the leftover die cut piece from the front of the card.

Supplies | Cardstock (Bazzill Basics). Patterned Paper: Echo Park (Sweet Girl 12×12 Collection Kit). Embellishments: Echo Park (Sweet Girl Chipboard & Brads), Dovecraft (Cupcake Boutique – large). Floss: We R Memory Keepers. Tape: Echo Park (Sweet Girl). Die Cutting Machine: Spellbinders (Grand Calibur). Dies: Spellbinders (Standard Circles). Corner Rounder: We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper 70899-5.

Designer: Yana Smakula

Yana Smakula is a newlywed from Ukraine (which is in southeastern Europe) with no kids but two black cats. She loves to travel across the world and meet new people, discover new cultures and just explore. So far together with her new husband she’s been to a few places in Europe (Poland, Check Republic and UK), Africa (Egypt, Tunisia and Israel), Asia (China and Sri Lanka) and USA. Their next dream destination is Madagascar, because they hear the nature there is simply breathtaking! Yana fell in love with the U.S. while living here (in Las Vegas, NV) as a high school foreign exchange student when she was a teen. She enjoys scrapbooking, mostly about her travels. Her other passion is cardmaking – she enjoys trying new products and techniques, experimenting and creating in different styles. She’s also very much into stamping (although she didn’t realize it until she took a close look at her cards and noticed almost all of them use stamps!). To learn more about Yana, visit her website.

Hope everyone & everything is OK – it is VERY unusual for SU to go over a week without an update.

Thanks for your concern! Things got a bit crazy here after my daughter was quite majorly ill during the run-up to Scrapbook Soup tapings. We have a major transition underway here on the site as well (announcement in a few days)…we’ll be back full speed as soon as I’m home from the studio later in the week. In the meantime, we’re bringing you some new content tomorrow from Tammy. :)
