Cards | Celebrate…Happy Birthday

january 6

Designer Deena Ziegler is here today with a card that shows blocking taken to a whole new level!

Deena used blocking on this card to create distinct areas for two different sentiment phrases on the front of the card, allowing them to co-exist in the design without seeming to compete with each other. The longer sentiment got a larger, more elaborate mounting block, while the simpler sentiment (happy birthday) got a smaller, simpler background block. This also helped the card’s balance by giving the eye someplace to rest that wasn’t too busy.

Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill. Die Cuts: Sizzix. Stamp: Stampin’ Up!. Twine: May Arts. Patterned Paper: October Afternoon. Rhinestones & buttons: unknown. Pen: EK Success. Ink: Ranger.

Designer: Deena Ziegler

Deena Ziegler has been a crafter for as long as she can remember. Her Mom, Grandma, and Aunts were always crafting up some project and they were happy to teach her everything they knew. Baking, sewing, needlework, you name it, they did it! As a young mom Deena became a professional crafter, and now she works at Sizzix as a Craft Designer, teaches card making classes, teaches online at My Creative Classroom, and owns and operates a small card kit business – and she blogs all about it. Deena enjoys finding ways to be creative in daily life by repurposing, giving handmade and creating with her daughters.
