Pinterest Inspiration | Pleated Maxi Dress

I was browsing Pinterest this week and found a photo that I couldn’t get out of my mind. This dress is not something I would typically be drawn towards but I really wanted to work with these colors. It’s out of my box and that’s sometimes a good place to start with an inspiration piece.

This Tropicalia Pleated Maxi Dress is from Anthropologie and is a wild mix of color and shapes and swirled patterns. It uses blues, greens, purples, whites, oranges and even more colors to create a vintage bohemian and tropical feel.

I started this layout with a textured piece of grey background paper. Because I knew that this style was going to be way out of my comfort zone, I decided to use a template to help with the design process. This particular template includes the frames, brushes, butterfly accents, and other small details that instantly gave me the feel I wanted. The butterfly accents and brushes were even the colors I wanted to use. I added my photos and journaling, along with the title and a word strip label and I was done. It made the layout super-fast to create and helped me work with a design style that doesn’t come easy to me.

I love spending time on Pinterest and I always find something to inspire me. I hope that you are inspired by this design as I was. Let me know where you find inspiration and maybe I’ll use it in a future column. You can also follow my Pinterest boards here.

  1. Absolutely beautiful, Stephanie! I’d never have known this was a stretch for you. You inspire me to try digital scrapping. I even have Adobe Photoshop 9….just don’t want to have to organize all my photos manually. :)

  2. You are amazing how you do this = take inspiration from somewhere really unexpected and create something beautiful
