Materials for mixed media were everywhere at CHA Winter 2013. Faber-Castell, perhaps best known for its fine art materials, offers a line ideal for mixed-media artists under the label Design Memory Craft. Artists who enjoy the popular Gelato colors will want to check out the two new color sets: Tropical and 50’s Diner.

The Tropical set colors are Snow Cone, Margarita Mix, Raspberry, and Watermelon. The 50’s Diner set includes Acqua Dolce, Squid Ink, Banana, and Blood Orange. Each set includes a dabber and a brush for creating patterns and artistic effects. Faber-Castell also presented larger sized jars of its own gesso, gel medium, and glaze, as well as new tools for working in mixed media. These new products ship in February.

Not quite new, but an eye-catcher nonetheless, was the Studio Caddy Premium Gift Set. It includes 20 Stamper’s Big Brush Pens, 50 PITT Artists Pens, 30 Art GRIP Aquarelles, 30 Art GRIP Color Pencils, 28 Gelatos, 16 PITT Pastel Pencils, and 10 tools – plus a desktop caddy to hold them all. With an MSRP of $349.95, it's a big-ticket item -- but what a comprehensive collection of media and colors, all in one neat package. The set represents a 20% savings over purchasing the items separately, according to Faber-Castell.
