Pinterest Inspiration | Black + Red

Color seems to be inspiring me a lot lately and I’m loving red with dark, classic colors. Not only did I fall in love with the product for this week’s inspiration photo but I also fell in love with the color combination.

This “Doorganizer” is a small doorknob organizer that hold keys, notes, or cellphones. What a handy product! But what really inspired me to create a layout was the color combination – black + red+ white text. I love the high contrast between the three colors and I also love the  juxtaposition of the colors – a black background, with a bright red foreground and white text.

All supplies from Designer Digitals | Patterned Paper: Red, Black and Creme Kit (black and white paper) by Katie Pertiet. Cardstock: Winter Woods Solids Paper Pack (red paper) and Red, Black and Creme Kit (ivory paper) by Katie Pertiet. Vinter Worn Paper Pack (black paper on tag) by Lynn Grieveson. Frames: Classic Curled Photo Frames No. 06 by Katie Pertiet. Word Art: Typesets Hello Ness Brushes and Stamps by Cathy Zielske. Brush: Fancy Flourishes Brushes and Stamps No. 01 by Katie Pertiet. Embellishments: Vinter Kit (heart circle) by Lynn Grieveson (heart circle) and Varsity Felts Alphabet Collection (question mark) by Pattie Knox.

I wanted this layout to have a bit more visual interest than the inspiration photo so I started with a piece of black-and-white floral patterned paper as the background. I then layered a piece of red cardstock over it as a base for my journaling and photos. I framed two photos and then filled the third frame with cream cardstock. I layered embellishments over the cream cardstock to highlight the lack of a photo for my other daughter. In keeping with the text on the inspiration photo, I added white journaling and white word art for my title. The only other embellishment I added was a lightly-brushed flourish to the left of my photos.

When I was done with my layout, I looked back at the inspiration photo one last time and noticed something funny – without even realizing I was doing it, the only grey element I had put on my layout was the question mark. Which is also placed in a similar location to the silver keys in the inspiration photo. It’s funny how that worked out!

I love spending time on Pinterest and I always find something to inspire me. I hope that you are inspired by this design as I was. Let me know where you find inspiration and maybe I’ll use it in a future column. You can also follow my Pinterest boards here.
