Archiver’s Pinterest Misstep Highlights Social Sharing Challenges

A minor brouhaha this week involving some Archiver’s stores’ use of content from Pinterest has once again highlighted some of the challenges for companies of navigating the internet’s social sharing websites and trends.

The story starts very simply: Archiver’s curates Pinterest boards that combine their own in-house content with content pinned from elsewhere. They apparently wanted to highlight their use of Pinterest to interact with their customers, and so they decided to encourage their stores to put their in-house Pinterest content on display in stores with an “As Seen On Pinterest” label on it. Sounds straightforward.

What actually happened was a bit different, however. Several high profile industry designers discovered that their work was on display in one of the stores, without their permission, with the Pinterest label on it.

Digital Trends | Chalkboards

Chalkboards and chalky alphabets are all over the digital scrapbooking world right now. Every week, I see a new chalkboard idea on one of the digi sites and they are cool and funky. Let’s go take a look at just a few of the chalkboard products I’ve seen lately.

It’s a Party card by Anski

I am a total fan of navy and tan, and this card combines those colors to perfection. Anski did a beautiful job combining colors here, and the crisp white embellishments really set off that color combination. And look at the little birds! I just love everything about this.

Hobby Lobby Sues Obama Administration Over ACA Birth Control Mandate

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. filed suit Wednesday in Federal Court to stop implementation of mandates in the Obama administration’s healthcare law which would require it to cover birth control methods that its ownership says it is opposed to on religious grounds.

David Green, Hobby Lobby CEO and founder, is well-known for running the family company in accordance with his family’s conservative Christian beliefs.  Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday and the company prides itself on paying its employees wages above usual retail industry standards.

Unless the court overturns the coverage mandate in the ACA law, on January 1st Hobby Lobby will be required to begin covering the morning after pill and other forms of contraception such as the IUD, which the company’s ownership holds to be in violation of their religious beliefs, according to the lawsuit filings. They are asking the court to declare the ACA mandate unconstitutional, and for a stay to block it going into effect.   According to a press statement, the company believes they could face fines of $1.3 million per day for failing to comply with the coverage mandate if it is not blocked.
