Monthly Tags | #14 – February 2012

Having tag #14 of the monthly tag series fall in February worked nicely…the number 14 in my design serves the February Valentine theme as well as being the tag’s number!

February 2012 tag

Supplies:

Also: Bella Blvd Washi Tape (Pink Stripe); Martha Stewart Pink Layered Pom Pom Stickers; Recollections by Michaels charms; K&Company Life’s Journey Metal Art (keys); Technique Tuesday clear stamps (A Day To Remember).

This month’s tag is a sort of random collage of elements that mostly each have their own meaning. The heart is for Valentine’s Day, and for the love that keeps us together through all our challenges. The heart is die cut from music patterned paper to represent the music I turn to for expression and strength. The meaning of the lock and key are obvious, representing Mike’s imprisonment. The butterfly represents the hope for the future of freedom, and the washi tape with the postmarks on it is symbolic of the letters that we exchange that are so important to our relationship. The pink tape and the flower are really the only purely decorative elements on the tag, that don’t have some additional meaning behind them.

This tag is one of several that I cut out of the set of Pink Paislee Spring Jubilee Collage Cards. They were the perfect size and weight to cut tags from, and I loved the designs. These are the results I got after cutting them with my Tim Holtz tag die, carefully placing the die with the designs lined up how I wanted them:

Being able to make tags like these is just another reason that I can’t live without my Tim Holtz Tag & Bookplates die!

Well, that is it for the tags that I have completed so far…number fifteen is up next and I have five more to do to get caught up to the current month. I already have an idea for making the August tag, #20, using some ephemera from this month, but it’s not quite time to make that one yet!

I love how you’ve positioned the tags to capture just the right images from the paper. :-)

It takes a bit of juggling! You have to position them face down on the die without being able to see exactly how they are laying (I kind of rolled them on so you can see as they lay down what is being cut), and then try to get them sandwiched and in the machine without moving anything. There’s no way to check if you bumped something without realizing it before you cut…so you have to be a bit lucky too!

Thanks Judy! I love neat and clean. At least, in my scrapbooking – just don’t ask about my house. ;-)
