Welcome to Gallery Highlights for this week!

This week’s finds include some gorgeous projects, including an album that may make you catch your breath and a one-page layout that includes 17 photos. I hope you like them all as much as I do. Let’s go take a look! Don’t forget – You can click on the links to visit the layouts in their galleries and view supply lists, leave a comment for the designer, or view the designer’s other work.

Afghanistan Title Page by mugsbigsis

These next two pages took my breath away when I saw them. Kelly’s son is currently deployed to Afghanistan and she is documenting his deployment through his Facebook posts and photos. The first image is the title page, and the single enlarged image is just breathtaking. It’s hard to imagine what his daily life is like. The second page is a two-page spread featuring photos he has taken. The simple template that Kelly has chosen for this powerful album is perfect – the pictures speak for themselves and the clean, graphic design allows them to shine. We throw around the word “inspiration” a lot in the scrapbooking world but I’m not sure I’ve ever been more inspired than I am by this album Kelly is making.

Hilton Head 2012 by Sherry C

Sherry’s simple cover design for her travel album is so beautiful and light. I knew I wanted to feature it as soon as I saw it. Her album is 6 x 8 and the cover is whimsical and fun. I love the way she has balanced the design with three touches of blue – the stars and the two blue stamped words. You can see the album in its entirety by clicking on the link above.

Sky Deck Ledge by Jill S

Look at how beautifully Jill matched her photos to the patterned paper in this layout! Her daughter took these photos on a school trip to Chicago, and Jill built on the sky motif of the paper by misting and layering frames. She even misted a die-cut title and backed it with pop dots. And my favorite part is the pops of red she included – this is a beautiful layout!

Enjoy by AllisonWaken

I’ve mentioned designing on a grid many times in my articles but Allison literally designed on an actual grid in this next layout. She stamped a large grid and then filled it with photos, journaling, patterned paper and very simple embellishments. I’ve said it before but you simply can’t go wrong when you use a grid as the basis for your design. I love what Allison has done here, particularly the way she’s split up two of her squares diagonally. Allison has shown simple and beautiful design at its finest.

Disney Adventures by Glenys

Who doesn’t love a great Disney layout? Glenys used a collage built in Picasa to fit in 17 photos on this layout. The variety in photo sizes really helps to balance the design and the thin, white grid makes them each stand on their own. The patterned paper and banner at the top of the page also helps to balance all the bright colors in the photos. It’s a great design that shows a wonderful way to include a lot of photos.

And there you have them - our gallery highlights for the week! I just wish we had time and space to feature more of the amazing designs out there.  Thanks so much to all of the designers who shared their work with us this week. What an honor to be one of your highlights this week – thank you! I love each featured project, but you’re right, the Afghanistan album is beautiful and compelling.

Your lead in was spot on. These are truly breathtaking layouts. Afghanistan should win a prize, not only for the layouts but for the quality of the photography.
