Clear stamp company Some Odd Girl was one of the standouts of the new exhibitor section at CHA Summer 2012 in Chicago.
Michigan-based Some Odd Girl was founded in 2010 by owner Kristy Dalman as a digital stamp company. In May 2011, she branched into physical products and began producing clear stamps of her unique, quirky characters.
Many companies are currently offering stamp designs of human characters. Most of those designs are somewhat vintage or cute looking, and of young children. Some Odd Girl stands out because it offers designs of more mature looking figures (like those pictured above and below). The company’s designs feature a modern styling that is closer to anime or gaming avatars than it is to most of the current character stamps on the market.
The new stamp set above is called Kaylee’s Closet and is a sort of paper doll design to customize the exact look of the character. There’s also add-on sets with additional outfits and accessories (a few are pictured to the left).
These designs may well serve to attract tweens or adults to character stamps that otherwise would not have looked twice at this type of design. Tweens love personalizing stuff and making it in their own image (such as gaming avatars). These stamps could be used as the foundation of projects to introduce that age group (or at least the girls in it) to marker blending and other coloring techniques, and to illustrate journals and Smash type projects.
These figures are available in three different characters – Kaylee, Mae, and Gwen – as well as a line featuring an assortment of characters called the Nouveau Girls.
Some Odd Girl also has characters of younger kids, called Tiny Tia and Tiny Tobie, and those have the same quirky style as the older characters:
Some Odd Girl clear stamps will be available soon at SimonSaysStamp.com.
