Digital Designer Spotlight | Anna Aspnes

[Editor’s Note: This is the first in a bi-weekly series introducing digital designers and their products to Scrapbook Update’s readers. – Nancy]

Meet the Designer | I am happy to introduce you to an incredibly talented digital designer – Anna Aspnes.  Well-known for her artsy style, Anna’s products are immediately recognizable. Anna is a military wife and lives in Colorado with her husband, two children, and two new puppies. I hope that you enjoy getting to know her!

Anna’s Background | Anna is a UK native and has always been interested in art and design. Growing up, she dreamed of being a fashion designer but was persuaded to pursue linguistics instead. She studied German and French at the University of Leeds in England but she always felt destined to be an artist. Nine years ago, she found her way back to her passion with digital scrapbooking and design.

She started scrapbooking in 2002 after the birth of her daughter, mostly as a means of sharing their lives with her family in Europe. She struggled with paper scrapbooking for about six months before she spotted a digital layout, made with blended photos, words and artistic elements. Immediately charmed by the digital medium, she knew that this was the way she could combine her love for creating art with her love for her growing family. And the more digital layouts she created and posted online, the more requests she had for product design. It was a great fit and her business was born.

Anna’s Style & Inspiration | Anna’s style is truly original – she describes it as “artsy and outside-the-box.” She believes in a “no rules approach” towards scrapbooking and encourages scrapbookers to mix artistic styles with more traditional styles. Modern and abstract art, as well as paint and curves, inspire her creatively. She is also inspired by people, especially those that give back to the world “both in actions great and small.” She believes in living fully and hopes that she can make a difference by sharing her art and helping others to preserve memories.

She has two release dates per week – the main release day is Friday and typically includes 8 products, including a $1.00 AnnaSelect item. All of her new releases are available at 20% off for the first week and also provides the option to purchase the entire weekly AnnaRelease at 35% off or more. Wednesday’s releases include her FotoInspired Layouts series, MonthlyReview Templates and all Project 365 products, including her 3 x 4 ArtsyKardz that are very popular with both digital and paper crafters for Project Life.

The AnnaTeam | Anna’s design team consists of 15 members who support her with administration, writing tutorials for her blog, hosting challenges and designing. Openings in her design team occur when a member leaves and replacements are hand-picked based on participation in her gallery and the forums at Oscraps. A full list of AnnaTeam members and links to their blogs and galleries can be found here.

Where to find Anna | Anna’s digital supplies can be found through Oscraps at Anna Aspnes Designs and you can follow her on Facebook or Twitter at Facebook/anna.aspnes and Twitter/annaaspnes. Besides selling digital supplies at Oscraps, Anna also creates digital albums and slideshows for Smilebox and she is a member of Wacom’s Penscrappers Panel. She will also be teaching at Lain Ehmann’s True Scrap 3 event in April 2012.  For more information about Anna, her designs and for links to her tutorials, visit Anna’s blog.

Fun Facts | Anna likes to lift weights, swim, bike and run. She enjoys living a simple life and likes red wine, funny movies, good conversation and spending time at home with her family. Anna’s favorite food is an avocado – she loves the creamy texture and incorporating them into a variety of dishes. Her favorite color is red and her favorite Friday night activity involves opening a bottle of wine and watching a movie with her husband on the couch.

I hope you’ve enjoyed meeting Anna Aspnes! If there is another digital designer that you’d like to learn more about, please let me know at or leave me a comment here.
