NSD 2010 3pm Hour: CHA Trends

[Editor's Note: Scrapbook Update will be taking a break for a few hours after this giveaway, but will be back later tonight with more NSD fun!]

The scrapbook industry is definitely subject to the whims of trends just like fashion and home decor is. Here’s a look back at some of the past trends in the industry in the past few years:

One of the biggest trends at CHA Winter 2010 (which will probably continue into CHA Summer 2010) was vintage. Nobody does vintage like Graphic 45 does vintage…so this hour our prizes are from Graphic 45!

That’s right, I said prizeS. Plural! This hour there will be THREE winners!

We have 8×8 paper pads to give away: A Proper Gentleman, On The Boardwalk, and Le’ Romantique. Each pad will go to a different winner!

How to Enter:

All you have to do to be one of the lucky winners is leave a comment on this entry before Midnight U.S. eastern time on Sunday night, May 2nd, telling us what your favorite CHA Winter 2010 trend was, or what trend you predict for CHA Summer 2010. Make sure you include your email address in the line reserved for it on the comment form (for your own protection, don’t put it in the text of the comment, where it will be visible to the public – just in the line labeled “email” in the form where only Scrapbook Update staff can see it). We will need it to notify you if you are a winner. Winners will be drawn by random drawing from all eligible entries. One entry per person. (Note: If you are reading this post via an RSS subscription, click here and it will take you to the giveaway on the  Scrapbook Update website where you can fill out the comment form at the bottom of the article to enter.)

Paperclipping is having a special 50% off sale today for new members for NSD:

I like the vintage trend, but I’m not good at it myself.. :D For the Summer I think there will be more vintage and even more recycle trends..

    Have a great Sunday!

I love the vintage look of Graphic 45. I have scrapped my niece just getting married (Le Romantique line) down to my great grandfather in the 1950s (Proper Gentleman line) and all are absolutely beautiful and adored by all. I didn’t have to use much embellishments because the lines are so beautiful!!!

Without a doubt the trend I favor is unmounted rubber stamps — such a space saver! My stamp collection can really grow now. I use a lot of Graphic 45 paper. It’s great for cards.

  4. Betsy Burnett May 2, 2010 at 6:59 am #

Love vintage…I also think we will continue to see more “green” both in production and in reuse/repurpose.

  5. Pamela Bennett May 2, 2010 at 7:12 am #

I love ,love, love Graphic 45 and Websters Pages! They are two companies I go to when I want the most beautiful vintage looks ever. New trends for 2010 would have to be without a doubt Tim Holtz and his new Distress Inks, Ideology and of course the Sizzix Alteration Die Cuts and the Texture Fades, the man is a genius! I also think that Tattered Angels is going to be a big hit with their new Gimmer Glam and Chalkboard Mists and resist products, can`t wait to get my hands on them!

  6. Hester May 2, 2010 at 7:43 am #

I think altering nice pieces for your home is a trend. and those beautiful vintage trims!

  7. Renee T (italgal on BPS) May 2, 2010 at 8:51 am #

I predict we will see a lot of coral and turquoise as a color pallette at Summer CHA…

  8. frances m grillo May 2, 2010 at 9:12 am #

    love the vintage look.

  9. Diane S. May 2, 2010 at 9:16 am #

I think the trend is going to continue to be vintage and retro-everyone is looking to remember the simpler times in this economic situation we face.

  10. Carol Miller May 2, 2010 at 9:34 am #

I love Graphic 45 & Webster’s Pages. I love all the vintage ltems that came out at Winter CHA as it’s my favorite style.

  11. Michelle M May 2, 2010 at 9:36 am #

I think one of the biggest trends of 2010 [ and will continue] is handmade items…specifically flowers. It’s a “green’ thing to do…using scraps mostly and handmade “unique ” things seem all the rage now. I like having something on my Lo that noone else has! I think bees are going to be big in the next year too!

  12. cindy weiffenbach May 2, 2010 at 9:48 am #

Sewing seems to be everywhere that I look…on almost all the pages in the magazines there is some sort of stitching, fabric, etc. I love the look of the frayed edges on fabric and flowers.

  13. JeanH May 2, 2010 at 9:54 am #

My favourite CHA Winter 2010 trend was the spray paints/mists!! It’s so much easier to paint with them and much less mess. I love all the varieties companies are coming out with now and am sure to support them in their endeavours. LOL

  14. Shirley Fread May 2, 2010 at 10:33 am #

I love the vintage look and anything by Tim Holtz!

  15. Virginia Chapman May 2, 2010 at 10:34 am #

I think that my favorite trend was with Webster’s Pages for the delicate vintage look that focused on nature and objects. I also adored Graphic 45 for a vintage look that has seperate feminie and with masculine trends that focused on people. Both lines consistently offer top quality.

  16. Teri May 2, 2010 at 10:43 am #

Graphic 45 rocks! Doing a family history album and this will be great-

  17. Kathy Nichols May 2, 2010 at 10:45 am #

Love the vintage look!! I thing the trend will continue. Graphic 45 might be my newest fav!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  18. Tina V May 2, 2010 at 11:30 am #

I love the vintage look and think it will continue and banners will be going strong during summer CHA!

  19. Julie M. May 2, 2010 at 11:55 am #

    love the vintage

  20. GildaO May 2, 2010 at 12:01 pm #

I love Vintage! I strongly believe this Summer will bring more vintage and lots of retro. The good old days are back to stay!

  21. Christine Schmidt May 2, 2010 at 12:06 pm #

Wow…lots to choose! I think the decorative tapes & felt have been a hot item lately with alot of companies. Die cutting is definitely here to stay as is unmounted rubber stamps. Although there are alot of my favorite companies still making the wood mounted ones. CANVAS has got to be my new all time FAVIE!! Very versitile and there are so many mediums you can use to alter it!!

  22. Pamela Vogrin May 2, 2010 at 12:19 pm #

I think social media and scrappin is going to be huge…if there aren’t already apps to do the following I’m sure they are right around the corner…take a photo with your phone and then select a layout design and add embellishments and then email to all your loved ones… :-)

  23. tammy May 2, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

hard to pick one thing…so many fun stuff came out – but I will pick one that I’ve used quite a bit since it became a trend…Banners

  24. Teri Weber May 2, 2010 at 1:40 pm #

  26. lynnfrompgh May 2, 2010 at 2:17 pm #

Anything Graphic 45 is a top seller!! I love the Vintage lines so hope this trend continues……all the little banners are sooooo cute!

  27. Melinda Wilson May 2, 2010 at 3:36 pm #

I loved the banner flags and butterflies trends that were introduced. I also saw more purple lines which I loved. I would love to see more turquoise stuff.

  28. kris May 2, 2010 at 5:16 pm #

I think the glimmer mist has to be one of my favs – just because you can use it on so many things and it is fun to play with!
Of course I love Graphic 45 – I love how they are “themed” but with the duplicate sides SO versatile. Love that the company has such a distinctive look but each collection is new enough to keep me coming back for more!

  29. Marilyn B. Hughes May 2, 2010 at 6:40 pm #

ATCs and Clear Stamps are two of my favorite trends (I’m part of an ATC swap group) and I think they will continue to be popular. I’ve also noticed how popular flowers are and think that will even grow more (no pun intended!).

    Smiles~

I am so happy to see vintage. Graphic 45 sets the bar, but LYB is running close with their Clothesline line………perfect for kids pics….pics of me and my sis when we were young…….finally enough vintage that I can scrap all of my vintage photos!

  31. Rene May 2, 2010 at 7:22 pm #

I’m in love with the paper line, but now I’m broke so I have not used this or felt in my hands to to say ooooooooh stunning. But now this is one line I want to buy when I get M_O_N_E_Y!!

  32. serena May 2, 2010 at 8:17 pm #

I see banners everywhere. they are definitely cute!

  33. flowerdisco May 2, 2010 at 9:57 pm #

    love die cuts/cutting.

  34. Stacy W. May 2, 2010 at 10:04 pm #

Love the vintage look! I would be so happy to play with this line of paper!

  35. Lola May 2, 2010 at 10:08 pm #

I have to agree about the vintage. But I think flowers are getting bigger than ever. Lots of handmade flowers. I think we will see more vintage and lots more home decor wtih paper.

  36. Susan S May 2, 2010 at 11:03 pm #

I love vintage with a shabby chic flair – especially the Melody Ross Homespun Chic line.

  37. Terri Harmon May 3, 2010 at 12:35 am #

I think vintage with a touch of bling will continue to be popular. I also like the packaged kits such as those offered by SEI in their 1 hour album series.

  38. Allie May 3, 2010 at 12:37 am #

Whilst I am excited about many of the trends, my favourites (because I couldn’t decide being Libran and all lol) were felt and tape. I LOVE texture and have been attracted to felt for quite a while but don’t want to be trying to cut intricate patterns myself so I love using precut stuff. Tape is great as I LOVE ribbons etc but sometimes want a smoother look on my layouts. Tape will be great. Now, need to find a stockist in New Zealand…

I love banners, dont know if that will continue as theyseem to have been done to death but i still love them! I think we will see more fiddly papercutting
