GCD Studios has announced that Melody Ross has joined the company as a designer. Her first line from GCD Studios, called “Artsy Urban”, should be available already at Michael’s and will soon be shipping to other stores as well according to the company.
Ross was the founder of pioneering manufacturer Chatterbox, which was shut down earlier this year after being purchased in December 2007 by 7 Gypsies parent company Ultra-Pro. Ross no longer ran the company at the time of the Ultra-Pro purchase. Business difficulties had required Chatterbox to bring in an investor in November 2006 to take control of their operations. At that time, Ross had reverted to solely a creative role in the company. Ross announced in July 2009 that she had left Chatterbox entirely back in April.
Artsy Urban is a significant departure from the signature style of Chatterbox, but very much in Melody Ross’s personal style if you’ve seen her scrapbooking or her fashion.
According to a blog entry by Melody Ross, Michaels has already requested a second collection from her. That collection will be titled “Homespun Chic”.
