Yes, it’s hard to believe, but my little baby blog is 5 years old today.
Five years ago, this site started out as an online journal called Inside Scrapbooking. Originally, it recorded the observations of an aspiring designer submitting work to magazines. The site’s first-ever article, Living In A Scrapbook Time Warp, was about the oddities of scrapbooking while following a magazine’s editorial calendar.
The scrapbook industry was booming when Inside Scrapbooking started. Scrapbook magazines were twice the length (and twice the number) that they are now. In many communities, there was a scrapbook store in every neighborhood.
Around the time of its 3rd birthday, Inside Scrapbooking became Scrapbook Update. The name change reflected the way the content had evolved over time and helped in registering a domain name for the site. Then last year, Scrapbook Update became part of Balalaberry Media LLC when I incorporated a media company for my various writing work.
There have been other changes along the way. This site is now part of a full-time business I run, instead of my hobby, and so advertising is now a necessary part of its design. Earlier this year, Scrapbook Update moved from Typepad to the self-hosted WordPress platform so that the content can be delivered in a more user-friendly way.
None of this growth would have been possible without Scrapbook Update’s thousands of loyal readers, or the support of the advertisers I work with, and the companies that are generous with donations for Scrapbook Update’s readers. So for the past five years, I say thank you to all of you.
Admit it…the best part about birthdays are presents. And for Scrapbook Update’s birthday it is going to be the readers that will get the presents! You’re going to be treated to a whole slate of giveaways in the next few days, from companies like Technique Tuesday, Little Yellow Bicycle, Buzz & Bloom, Cricut, and a few others! So watch for those posts and be sure to get your comment in on them so you have a chance to win!
And thank you again for making the past five years possible…and I’m looking forward to sharing the possibilities of the next 5 years with all of you!
