For Friday, here’s a couple news briefs related to Michaels and Provo Craft:
Michaels to hold Back-To-School event
Michaels will be holding a back-to-school event in all of its stores tomorrow (Saturday, August 15th) from 10am-1pm. Kids from age 5 to age 12 are invited (while supplies last) to decorate metal pencil boxes to help them prepare for the return to the classroom this fall.
Home Depot Gets The Cricut
Yet another big box store is getting the Cricut – only this time it’s not a crafts store. Home Depot has started to carry the Cricut Expression Home Decor Bundle and a selection of accessories for it on their website. The focus of the store’s offerings is on the machine’s wall decor capabilities, with a variety of colors of vinyls and the cartridge selection mostly alphabets.
Michaels Gets Exclusive On Gypsy
Customers who are waiting anxiously to get their hands on Provo Craft’s new Gypsy tool for the Cricut machine are going to need to look at Michaels for it. According to Michaels, it will be available exclusively in their stores starting on October 4th. Michaels stores will begin taking pre-orders for the tool tomorrow (Saturday, August 15th). Scrapbook Update is waiting for word from Michaels on how long the tool will be exclusive to them, and will update the story when that information is received.

The gypsy will probably be the hottest selling item at Michael’s this holiday season. I expect to see it sold out on a regular basis. Pre-orders are your best bet if you want to get your hands on one before the holidays.
What a bummer for the LSS. Our Micheals here in Canada is robbing people with the price also. They are selling them for $399 CDN, the US retail is $299. The exchange rate is around 10% now.
I think Michael’s is the worst craft store on the planet, and will happily wait out this 30-day exclusive to purchase this from my LSS. The Michael’s in my neighborhood is poorly run, not stocked well, with grouchy and difficult employees who will not take your coupons, etc. I have contacted Michael’s headquarters about my coupon issues, but they told me that I should call 1-800-Michaels while at the register in the store, and I am not about to hold up the line and create a fuss like that in any store – they simply do not get my business or my money anymore.
I have searched all of the Home Depot website trying to find the Cricut that your article references. I can’t find it. Any ideas on how to find this?
Thanks
I just went to double-check and copy the link for you and the products are all gone from the Home Depot website! I’ll have to see what is going on with that.
