So, what did Santa bring you?

I thought today we’d do an informal survey that’s half for fun and half to see if there was any big trends in holiday gifts for scrapbookers (among Scrapbook Update’s readership, at least).

Use the comments to tell us what you got for a holiday gift (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever you celebrate) that was scrapbook-related!

I’ll start out by telling you what I got. First, I got one of the KI Memories tin kits that I mentioned in the “Scraps of News” piece in mid-December. In fact, it’s the very same one that I mentioned I bought at Target the day after Thanksgiving. No, not a duplicate of that one – the actual one. My husband and I are at the stage of marriage where often we say “here honey, wrap this and put it under the tree for me this year.”

My other gift was something also mentioned in the “Scraps of News” article – a Canon Rebel XS! My mom decided to get me that for my gift, along with the 75-300 lens that Amazon was basically giving away with it at the time she ordered it.

Before I became a child-chasing point-and-shoot mamarazzi, I used to shoot a film SLR (Pentax K1000). I have a lot to learn making the transition to a digital SLR! But I really needed to make the transition for my work and am looking forward to it. I’ve already had the camera out shooting a couple of times in the local area and am slowly improving, at least on my landscape shots.

I’ve always felt there is a strong link between photography and scrapbooking, both for hobbyists and professionals. Scrapbook hobbyists are often people with a strong interest in photography, and scrapbook professionals need to take fabulous photos as part of their work (and some even use photography as an income source of its own). There is already a photography links page on Scrapbook Update, and I plan to share more photography content as I come across resources and information while trying to improve my own skills.

So…what scrapbook gifts did you get this holiday season?

Congrats on the camera, Nancy, and have fun!
My favorite gift was actually nsbr…a pair of UGG boots, so comfy and warm. I can’t believe DH actually got them for me!
My Mom did get me a few SB items…she said she just went through a catalogue and ordered the ones that were ‘new’…one item was the Tima Holtz grungeboard holiday shapes. I really could have used those when I was following along with his 12 tags, but I’ll still have fun putting it to other uses.

Actually, I got a nice mixed box of goodies including lots of little things! I have it all posted on my blog now! Plus, my husband gave me his version of a non-tacky gift card – he went and got $25 in dollar coins for me to spend on anything scrappy that I want! He’s so cute! I love that!

For Christmas my husband bought me the $199 Cricut Expression that was a black Friday sale at Walmart. I learned of the sale on your blog, actually, before I ever saw it in the ad. He also bought me a few cartridges at Michael’s during their $29 sale on Thanksgiving day (also learned about on your blog). My mom gave me one of those and hubby gave me the other two.
My mom also bought me the tripod I had been wanting for my DSLR.
My MIL put some glue dots in my stocking and also got me the Cricut tools in the zippered case and an EK punch.
I also got a $25 gift card to Michael’s from a family member who drew my name in our family exchange.
My grandma bought me a new scrapbooking tote. :)
Love your blog – can’t wait to hear what everyone else got!

I received a book – “601 Scrapbook Ideas” – from my son. They all know better than to actually get me scrapbooking supplies, unless I give them a very specific list. LOL I’m too picky about this stuff. I already have the baby Cricut, and all the cartridges I want. (I have 22 of them).

  5. Christina Moquin says:

I was spoiled. I got gift certificates from my sister and BF for my LSS and one for Michael’s. I also got a new sewing machine which I can’t wait to start playing with.

My mom and step dad gave me a much coveted Quisinart!!!! Yahooo I have wanted one for 20 years! My sons and DIL came and brought my 19 mo old grandson Jack!! WE still have presents to open now that we are back home from Mississippi and my step son gets home from his sisters in Oregon tonight!

Congrats on the Camera. I have a Canon 10D which is 6-7 years old now. My husband was going to get me the 50D for Christmas but I opted for the Cricut Expressions instead.
I hope you all have a very Happy & Healthy New Year!

  11. I only got a couple of scrapbook magazines but I was pleasantly surprised. In the past there hasn’t really been any thing to interest me. In the past they all seemed to be about 1 picture blingy layouts and even after switching to digital I’m still about the story, the pictures, and just a few elements as accents. So I was excited to see so many multiphoto layouts, articles on focusing on the pictures, journaling, and getting those projects done. I really enjoyed both magazines a lot.

  12. BA says:

I got a Cricut Expressions and a couple of carts.

  13. Beth D says:

My dh got me a Slice and three additional design cards!

  14. Diane Dowell says:

I got a Nikon D60 with a telephoto lense. Awesome camera! I got a very nice gift certificate to a local s/b store.

  15. Liz Craker says:

My hubby bought me two Sterilite 7-Drawer White Craft Carts to store my paper. I LOVE them, and I will probably buy at least one more. You will never believe what else he got me…a create-your-own scrapbook calendar kit…and he actually used the premade pages and stickers to complete the calendar for me. I had no idea he had gotten pictures from my computer, uploaded them to Snapfish/Walgreens, picked them up, cropped and adhered them. He even did some journaling too!

  16. Artemis says:

I didn’t get anything but I gave two friends who are just getting into SBing copies of the new SS special issue Quick & Easy Photo Albums.
I also gave a long list of basic SBing tools & supplies to the boyfriend of a good friend of mine. She is interested in starting to SB and he surprised her by equipping her with everything she needs to get started. She was so delighted and surprised. She had no idea. She said it was the best gift she had ever gotten.
Now she’s coming to raid some of my stash so she can get started!
