PaperCrafts magazine announced this week that Saturday, Oct. 4th will be the third annual World Card Making Day.
According to CHA, one in six households now participates in creating handmade cards, and those numbers are continuing to increase. Given the decline in the scrapbooking market recently, other papercrafting markets like card making are all that much more important to the survival of papercrafts businesses. An event like World Card Making Day is a great marketing opportunity that shouldn’t be passed up!
World Card Making Day is timed perfectly to help launch papercrafters on holiday card making projects. It’s a great way for scrapbook businesses to start their holiday marketing (if they haven’t already – I’m seeing new Christmas scrapbook products already in my local Target and Michael’s).
Special events like WCMD at stores encourage crafters to set aside time to start work on projects before the craziness of the holiday season is in full swing. Since crafts like handmade cards are an “optional” part of the holiday season, starting people on them early ensures that the customer’s money will not be lost to faster alternatives (ie premade cards) when the insanity of the holiday rush descends on people an “to do” lists start getting trimmed along with trees.
For more information on the event, visit the World Card Making Day website. The site includes information on retailers participating in WCMD events, an inspiration gallery of beautiful cards with complete supply lists and instructions, and a gallery for posting user creations.
