Social networking is the way the technology generation are all connecting, according to social media experts. Sites like My Space, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have changed our social – and professional – landscape for good.
The downside of these sprawling networks is that there is no common bond that the people on them share. They are great for connecting existing friends and strengthening those bonds, but if you are old enough to drink legally, making new friends on them can be difficult. Enter the solution – the social network based on an interest group.
The crafting world now has its own social network called Craftgate. A combination of the concepts of My Space and Yahoo! groups that are familiar to many crafters, the site brings together crafters of all types to share information and enjoy their common crafts. Users can join private clubs devoted to their area of interest, or start one if they don’t find one happening already. They can set up and follow a network of friends with similar interests, and take part in chats and post to blogs. Craftgate is basically a mini-internet just for crafters.
Like any social networking site, Craftgate will only be a success if it attracts a wide network of people. Check it out, and tell your crafting friends about it! The crafting world needs a place where people interested in a variety of crafts can share their interests all in the same place, and meet new people who share those interests.

I think that half of scapbooking (to many) is the socialization at crops….dedicated time to be with others and share a commmon interest. The internet has filled a large void when its not possible to go to a crop….you can be inspired by others work, find new techniques to try, etc…thanks for sharing this new network.
thanks for the link. It’s about time crafters had their own social network. It seems so many of them are geared towards tech subjects. I’ll check out the link and pass it on to my readers as well.
