Kodak Entering Printer Market

Eastman Kodak company announced yesterday that it is joining the inkjet printer market with the launch of two all-in-one printers that will be available starting in March 2007 (and a third to launch in May 2007). The printers will be available exclusively at Best Buy stores in the United States and online at Kodak.com, starting in April.

The printers’ primary selling point is that Kodak claims the ink costs per print for their exclusive pigment ink technology will be aproximately half of the cost for existing printers on the market. The printers use two cartridges, a black and a five-color cartridge, and Kodak says that for every $15 spent on color ink and every $10 spent on black ink, consumers can print the same number of pages that they usually pay twice that much for on existing cartridges.

The company also claims that their inks have a much longer archival life than existing printer inks on the market.

The Kodak EasyShare 5100 All-in-One Printer, pictured below, will retail for $149.99 MSRP. It can print up to 32 ppm in black and 22 ppm color, and is Pictbridge-enabled.
