And probably NOT for the better.
It has been announced today by F&W, the parent company of Memory Makers Magazine, that the company is moving the magazine’s offices from it’s current site in Colorado to F&W’s headquarters in Cincinnati. As part of that move, wholesale staff changes are taking place. Job postings are listed on the F&W corporate site for most of the senior editorial positions, including the positions of the magazine’s editor and managing editor, as well as associate editor, assistant editor, graphic designer and art director positions. Similar positions are also posted for Memory Makers Books.
I’ve really liked the direction that the magazine has been going recently. It’s an excellent publication put together by a sound editorial staff with wonderful contributors. It’s extremely unfortunate that the company in the name of “consolidation of resources” (probable translation: cost-cutting) has apparently decided they want to turn that upside down and start again from scratch. My condolences especially go out to all the talented people who are losing their jobs as a result of this decision.
F&W: If it isn’t broken, why are you taking a sledgehammer to it to try to fix it?

Wow. Thanks for the info and the link, Nancy.
Hear, hear!! You said it Nancy. I am so sad and disheartened by this.
Wow!! I live in Cincinnati and am really surprised to hear this. I do think that publication is incredible and being a designer, it would be great to be a part of it, but I don’t know about F&W. LOts and lots of turn over. All the time.
Very interesting – thanks for the info. Nancy!
